I remember second advert of Dharmindera, while living in Sialkot we had the reception of Indian Door Darrshan. another advert I cant get out of my head is
Washing Powder Nirma!!!

The only vague memory I have of Dharmender in ads is of that "yeh dosti, hum nahi todangay" Rajdoot moto ad. Washing Powder is another that will be stuck in my gen forever till our last breath..

I remember my uncle was posted in Yol army cantonment on the foothills of Dharamsala/McLeodgang (where the Dalai and a big Tib community lives).. they used to have Nissan Jongas back then for regular transport. So back in 89, I was all of 9 .. Sachin's first series, a real trial by fire it was too.. 15 years odd old kid.. the country was going ballistic about him.

That series, back in those days, pre cable TV etc was only broadcast on PTV.. and army camp, due to its somewhat? proximity or altitude or whatever it was.. to the border would catch that signal.. and we could watch it there.

"Exhibition" matches, they used to call them back then, like no records would be jotted down in their careers but it was still a match.. Baby Sachin vs the late great dancer/spinner Abdul Qadir (RIP)and smashing him for 24? something runs in an over.. then those great tests.. Imran marshaling his troops, Aaquib Javed, Wasim, Waqar et all.. Sachin got smashed in his nose by a Waqar Younis bouncer, blood all over the place.. poor kid.. got up, made 50 odd (if I'm not wrong) .. stuff of legends !

89 it was, his debut series.. didn't even (or maybe hardly) played any Ranji/1st class and thrown to the sharks.. and dear lord, what sharks they were.. Imran, Wasim, Waqar, Aqib (Pak version of the 4 famed Carribean horsmen of death) .. and the wily Abdul Qadir..

he made his mark there and then. and I felt bad for his partner in crime Manjraker though who couldnt stay as long with him due to other controversies.
back then I was still studying and there was a rumour that Sachin just ditched his 10th grade and didnt need to study no more as he was so good in Cricket and we were like what a lucky son of so and so. he is sorted.

and sorted he was indeed.
