The Atlantique Incident

Perhaps this particular Pakistani plane was just at wrong place at the wrong time(so soon after Pakistani intrusion in Kargil.)

But it still beg the question, what is a Naval reconnaissance plane doing so close to the Indian border?

close but not aCross the border ... :coffee:

So much for aman ka tamasha. We can't respect each other online, forget face to face contact.

Well, While I agree with your media driven Aman ka Tamasha and online part, Its altogether a different story when face to face. Its saner and respectful. Coming from my own experience in India and Abroad.

I want to ask one thing that:

Does Pakistan has good Air Defence(Low, Medium and High Altitude) in the Sindh region which is connecting with India and also in the Maritime zone???

I think we should build a separate for of Air-Surface Defence along side our Border from Army, Navy and Air Force, having Air Defence(Low, Medium and High Altitude) as well as in Maritime to have Surface defence along with some submerge defence too with Torpedoes.

:pakistan:

In 2010, the Navy established another command after launching an air defence system, using the infrared homing MANPADs system.[citation needed] The new command which is known as Pakistan Naval Air Defence (PNAD) are consisted the members of Pakistan Marines and Navy's ground officers after the first battalion graduated from the Naval School of Weapon System Engineering.[77] In 2010, the command air-launched and tested its first naval air defence system from Sonmiani Terminal— a space center of Space Research Commission (SRC) in the North Arabian Sea.[78] Along with the members of Pakistan Marines, the PNAD members are deployed in all over the country to support the marine operations of Pakistan Navy.

That is but your claim!! We claim, it did cross into our border and we shot it down just like how you shot down one of ours, just a couple of months before this.

by mutual understanding no aircraft is supposed to come 10km to the international border.
Also Pak MANPADS also damaged an Indian Mi-8 taking journos to the Indian side of debris.

I know that too. But PN needs a very potent kind of Air, Surface and Submerge defence system, as they only have surface and low level air defence. So I think they should allocate some money from GoP for the purchase of any system from China or EU which is similar or better than SPADA-2000.

An inteqesting piece of info :-
In 1993, Pakistan’s Atlantiques were outfitted with a piece of equipment known as a DR-3000A Electronic Support Measure. The DR-3000A was a product made by Thomson-CSF (now Thales) in France and designed to collect information regarding radar. Principally it listens for radar operating in the eight-to- twelve gigahertz frequency range, known as the X-band, which is popularly used for naval surveillance, air surveillance and fighter surveillance radar. By using the DR-3000A it would be possible to gather information regarding the characteristics and behaviour of any radar operating across these frequencies, affording important electronic intelligence, especially if somebody was keen to learn how to use electronic warfare to jam these radar. Although nobody is claiming that Pakistan’s Atlantique was performing a Signals Intelligence mission on the day it was shot down, the presence of an aircraft with a SIGINT capability near such a sensitive area certainly does raise some interesting questions.

The indian pilot who shot the unarmed airline sized plane died in an accident in his plane.. thts called karma..

It was a military aircraft with MIL transponder code flying UNAUTHORIZED in Indian airspace.

The standard protocol if you don't know is as follows:

1- IAF ATC asks the aircraft to identify itself and states its intentions.

2- On response, it asks the aircraft to leave the airspace (if very close to the border) and later take it up with the intruding country's standing military committee. But if the aircraft has entered significantly into the airspace, it is asked to follow the bearings to the nearest military base for unauthorized intrusion.

3- If 1 and 2 are not responded, then the controller sends in interceptors.

4- the interceptors try to establish radio contact with the intruding aircraft and press it to turn towards the air base within the country's boundaries.

5- If no response is done in 4, then the aircraft is warned twice to change course.

6- if no response in 5 or non compliance of it, the aircraft is shot down.

____________

Is this so difficult to understand?

Your aircraft even if unarmed, was a MIL code aircraft. MIL code aircraft from hostile nations are NOT authorized, especially just 2 years after a war with that country.

If the Atlantique was not there for snooping, then why didn't it comply with the IAF ATC?

Why did it speed up and try to exit?

That, is a breach of protocol and hence firing was necessary.

Sad and unfortunate incident but because of that commander's foolishness in the cockpit, 16 people died.

The whole cowardly episode was created by the Indians to avenge the earlier losses of their aircraft during the Kargil conflict and more so to boost the Indian PM's ratings for the coming elections, here you can see Mr Vajpayee posing for that Kodak moment, the wreckage was put on display like an exhibition for the visiting crowd to rejoice. Talk about bloody drama queens. !!

Indian Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee views the wreckage of the Pakistani naval aircraft at his New Delhi office on August 11. India said the plane was shot down on August 10 after it intruded into its territory and refused to respond to Indian warnings near the border in Gujarat state. The wreckage was flown to the Indian capital early morning.

Now go cry somewhere else about 'drama'.

What did you think, you are only one capable of playing dirty, sending your army into Kargil, while holding peace talks with us?

BS, how many times you see such incidents put on public display the very next day except at some later stage in a war museum or something.

What did you think, you are only one capable of playing dirty, sending your army into Kargil, while holding peace talks with us?

Well, it's all coming out now, why not just plainly admit that it was all staged.

What is there to admit, writing is on the wall, your reconnaissance plane violates 10 Km exclusion zone, possibly enters to Indian airspace.

Just months after your Kargil adventure, our patience for your antics was running low, we give it chance to land on an Indian airbase, when it makes a dash for Pakistani airspace we shoot it down. What did you expect would happen?
