The Armed Forces of Myanmar: The Navy

Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam and many other naval forces in the region still have limits with their expenditure. I believe Unmanned Underwater Vehicles can be a valid solution (mine detection-anti submarine warfare) for less money. Thai military is planning to become a hub in the region and they have already started manufacturing USV and UUVs in Thailand!

Hi madokafc,

I am not Thai, I am from Ireland but I have been leaving in Thailand for the last 20 years! Yes I will keep ypu posted on what I know about RTN and RTAF progress. I take this opportunity to say hello to everyone! I would also like to update everybody on the Irish Naval Service, but the Irish Navy is very small, so no much happens with them.

Corvettes

There are 2 corvettes in Myanmar Navy F 771 and 772. Both corvette are commissioned in early 2000s. Theses corvettes undergone several modernization program. They were not fitted with any AshM and fitted oly with 2 x 76 mm Oto cannon each when they commissioned. However they are upgraded with C 802 in 2008. Again they received more modern C 802A, SA-N-5 and RBU 1200 along with new radars and sonars in 2012.

The picture for F11 is not very clear, but it does not look like AK-630

What weapons this ship carry ?

Don't know, yet. Weapon and radar systems are still under installation. My guess is that it would be combination of Russian and Chinese made.

@Myanmar ,

Who is the greatest threat to Myanmar right now? Is it Bangladesh? Thailand? India? etc.

Thank you. And welcome to PDF.

@Hu Songshan, I believe Myanmar doesn't belong to the Far East.

@rott ,

Myanmar is part of the Association of South East Asian Nations, and has had historic ties with the East. Its history was substantial for the demographic effects in the south east asian mainland. It had links with the Lan Xang Kingdom (present day Laos), the Ayudhaya Kingdom (Thailand), Lovek Kingdom (Cambodia) as well as had historical interaction with the Qing Dynasty of China. The Qianlong Emperor had initiated multiple failed invasion attempts into the Burmese Empire , at the aim of destabilizing Burma [Myanmar] in its hold on Ayodhya [Siam]. So , i would challenge the notion that Myanmar is not part of the East, South East Asia thread. In fact, Myanmar has more societal and historical relations with South East Asia than South Asia. One could argue it is a bridge between South and South East Asia.

It clearly belongs in this thread. Thank you for your consideration also, Sir @Hu Songshan .
