A great take from LT.General Talaat Masood on the current dynamics of Afghan-Pakistan relationship.
The next couple of weeks are very important and the lull in fighting is a great opportunity for sane minds to take stock of things and let the peace process move forward.

" Pakistan and Afghanistan have to shed the burden of history and move towards a cooperative relationship that serves their people. They should widen economic, political and cultural links and benefit from transit trade instead of remaining hostage to the past. Globalisation requires regional harmony and cooperation, not confrontation."

@A-Team. Salam wrora what's your take on this issue..

What should be done? What about Afghan population and its mood?

The thing is, Pakistan was ready to move on and has always said n done tha. But its is true that the pancherries r not into this nor they want this. Hence forth its no use doing anything good for pancherries.

In short, let them rot in hell.

Why is it that the Pakistani side is only making these sort of statements?

In my opinion Pakistan and Afghanistan must make peace first the rest of the issues will follow suit in due time.
Ashraf Ghani laid out a definition of the state of relationship between Afghanistan and Pakistan, as " Undeclared state of hostilities" This is defination which the Pakistan Army has accepted. Therefore its imperative that we peace first state-state.

Talis and other groups will have no option but to negotiate once the issues between the Afghan state and Pakistan state are resolved.

PS : We must make peace, there is no way around it, the alternative is chaos, Pakistan and Afghanistan must make it work, period!

/Peace

Talat Masood has always held moderate opinions. In Carlotta Gaul's 'The Wrong Enemy', she describes a conversation between Masood and Musharraf (which was never denied by either party) , where Masood tries to convince Musharraf to stop patronage to terrorist groups used as proxies against India. Musharraf disagreed saying that those groups were not a threat to Pakistan and were important strategic assets.

The situation in Afghanistan suits the War Lords in charge of the country, Too much $$$ coming in to change the status but blame the $hit on Pakistan so money keeps coming in.

Peace typically requires one side to capitulate unconditionally or with specific conditions [If this is as you say, and I agree, a state of hostilities]. So for example do you think Pakistan will capitulate of Afghanistan, what will be the terms?
