(CNN)...................At Super Bowl LVI on Sunday, both teams will be playing with more than 1,000 tons hanging over their heads.

Suspended 122 feet above the field, the 120-yard long, oval-shaped Infinity Screen by Samsung is the largest videoboard in the history of sports, according to the Korean electronics giant. But while it's been in place since mid-2020, it won't have had a showcase quite like the Super Bowl before.

The screen is a key feature inside SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, a massive, reportedly $5 billion facility shared by two NFL teams -- one of which happens to be playing in this weekend's big game.

When the Los Angeles Rams and the Cincinnati Bengals clash on Sunday, fans inside the 70,000-capacity arena will have access to all manner of game data as a result of the giant screen. Instant replays and close-ups, statistics, scores and interactive updates will all be programmed on the screen in panels ranging from 20 to 40 feet high.

With 70,000 square feet of ultra-high-definition screen totaling 80 million pixels on its inside and outside surfaces, fans sitting lower down watch the screen inside the oval, while fans higher up will see the outside. Basically, there are no bad angles.

The display is making a lot of noise -- literally. It's fitted with the equivalent of 1,500 home theater speaker systems, meaning there's no chance of missing a referee's call.

To Infinity, and beyond

Though SoFi stadium hosted its first game in September 2020, Covid protocols meant fans weren't allowed inside until the following April. The Super Bowl represents something of a Hollywood premiere after a season of previews.

The stadium was designed by HKS, and Samsung worked with architectural drawings to optimize the spectator experience, says Mark Quiroz, vice president of marketing for Samsung Display Division. "The pure complexity of the building, from concept to design to construction was a challenging feat," he told CNN.

"Timing was also a very real challenge, ensuring that the Infinity Screen was ready for the NFL season opening day, a day that cannot be moved," he added. "This was also coupled with the early days of the pandemic, and the ability to put proper health protocols in place to protect the workers."

Its proximity to Los Angeles International Airport means the playing field at SoFi Stadium has to be below ground level.

Its proximity to Los Angeles International Airport means the playing field at SoFi Stadium has to be below ground level.
The need to innovate was paramount, however.

Some sports fans argue -- in many cases rightly -- that they can see more of the game and receive more in-game analysis from the comfort of their homes, and teams are having to work harder than ever on their stadium experiences.

"There is always going to be competition, as the home viewing experience has become so good with larger and sharper screens, requiring venues and technology providers (to) raise the bar on what the live fan experience needs to become to continually attract fans and guests," Quiroz said.

High stakes on the field, high tech off it

Super Bowl LVI is set to be the most high-tech iteration to date of the largest sporting event in the US.

The Super Bowl has dabbled in virtual reality since 2017, when highlights were available via the Fox Sports VR app. The technology has evolved and proliferated, and this year the entire game will be available to view in an immersive virtual theater run by VR events company Bigscreen in partnership with Meta.

Meanwhile for those watching on TV, broadcaster NBC will use new augmented reality (AR) functionality to integrate statistics and icons into the feeds delivered by around 40 cameras capturing the game.

A preview of "the Super Bowl Experience" exhibition at the Los Angeles Convention Center on February 4 showcased a history of Super Bowl Halftime Shows while teasing what is to come when artists Dr. Dre, Eminem, Snoop Dog, Mary J. Blige and Kendrick Lamar perform this weekend.

Commercial tie-ins are also turning to new user experiences on the "second screen" (a mobile or tablet while watching television).

Pepsi's Halftime Show mobile app will offer exclusive content and AR features linked to the show's performers Dr. Dre, Eminem, Snoop Dog, Mary J. Blige and Kendrick Lamar. Many brands plan to make the most of their astronomically expensive ad spots by supplementing their air time with AR to bring their products and characters into viewers' living rooms. And it doesn't end with the final whistle.

After the game, rock band Foo Fighters will perform a concert in VR via Horizon Venues, an app available on Meta Quest headsets and Facebook Live.

Samsung's next project is at Citi Field, home of baseball's New York Mets, where it aims to create the "most technologically advanced ballpark in the Major Leagues."

And before you ask, yes, it's going to involve another giant screen.

Why does the NFL use Roman numerals for the Super Bowl?

In June of 1966, the NFL and AFL agreed to merge for the 1970 season, but until then, both leagues would meet in a championship game after their respective seasons had ended. Since their seasons took place in the fall and this new game would be played in the new year, organizers decided to assign each edition a number instead of a year to avoid confusion.

Pate said she believes that changes in the system are necessary, but they need to come through a shift in culture or attitudes -- not a change in clothes.

"I think if there was a little bit more respect and understanding of what we do and how hard we work to wear that uniform...I think the critique (against our outfits) would be a lot more fair and balanced," she said, emphasizing that cheerleaders are worthy of respect regardless of what they are wearing. "Overall it speaks to the larger society and lack of respect for women's bodies and choices that we make around our bodies and how we represent ourselves."

"We've reached the top tier level of our sport," she added. "That's why it means so much to these men and women -- because (we've) earned it."

(CNN)It's that time of year again... Super Bowl Sunday is upon us! Whether you're in it for the game, the commercials, or the halftime show, here's everything you need to know about Super Bowl LVI.

What time is the Super Bowl and how can I watch it?

Super Bowl LVI kicks off at 6:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, February 13.

It will be broadcast live on NBC and streamed on Peacock. You can also watch at NBCSports.com and the NBC Sports App. NBC was originally scheduled to broadcast the 2021 Super Bowl but swapped years with CBS in order to have both the Super Bowl and the Winter Olympics, which began February 4, on at basically the same time.

What teams are playing in the Super Bowl?

The Los Angeles Rams and the Cincinnati Bengals. Both teams won their respective division championships in thrilling come-from-behind fashion, with the Bengals overcoming a huge deficit to beat the Kansas City Chiefs, 27-24, in the AFC Championship. The Rams mounted a fourth-quarter comeback against the San Francisco 49ers, ultimately beating them 20-17, to take the NFC Championship title.

Where is the Super Bowl being played?

Super Bowl LVI is being played just outside Los Angeles, in Inglewood, California, at SoFi Stadium, home to the Rams (and the LA Chargers). It's the second year a Super Bowl team will have home field advantage (the Tampa Bay Buccaneers won the Super Bowl at home last year).

However, technically for uniform and coin toss purposes, the Bengals will be considered the "home team" and the Rams will be the visitors since the designations alternate between AFC and NFC champions each year. Yes, it's weird, but we don't make the rules.

So, that means the Bengals will wear their standard home jersey, and the Rams will call the coin toss to open the game, as well as overtime if necessary.

What players should I know about?

The quarterbacks. Both were picked first overall in their respective NFL drafts, both wear #9, and both played at SEC schools in college, though not at the same time.

Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow is in just his second season as a pro and spent the latter part of his first sidelined with a torn ACL. Burrow was drafted first overall by the Bengals in the 2020 draft, and while he started his college career at Ohio State, he later transferred to Louisiana State University, where he won a National Championship and was the Heisman Trophy winner in 2019. If Burrow can pull off a Super Bowl win, he'll become just the third quarterback in history to win both a college football National Championship and a Super Bowl, joining the likes of Joe Montana and Joe Namath (yes, they'll all be named "Joe.")

Rams' quarterback Matthew Stafford is in his first season with Los Angeles, after more than a decade as the Detroit Lions' signal caller. Stafford's college career at the University of Georgia was more than respectable, but he failed to lead the school to a National Championship. He ultimately chose to forgo his senior year and entered the 2009 NFL draft, where he was selected first overall by the Lions. He was traded to the Rams last year, and coach Sean McVay said a few weeks ago the team wouldn't be where it is today without Stafford's leadership.

Who's going to win?

The Rams are favored to win, according to Bleacher Report, which is owned by CNN's parent company Warner Media. As far as matchups go, no one would have predicted this game at the start of the season, so who knows. The Rams are 12-5 on the season, while the Bengals are 10-7.

Bleacher Report also breaks down the odds of Burrow throwing an interception, Rams' wideout Odell Beckham Jr. notching over 64 receiving yards, and other assorted bits.

Who's performing in the halftime show?

This year's halftime show looks to be a rap, hip-hop love fest with Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, and Kendrick Lamar performing.
"Straight Outta Compton" director F. Gary Gray directed the trailer, dubbed "The Call." You can watch the teaser here:

What about the commercials?

Don't worry, we've got a preview!

Who should you root for?

Honestly, who cares! Just kidding -- kind of.
This NFL post-season was filled with a number of nail-biters, prompting some sports analysts, and even the NFL itself, to call it the greatest playoff season ever, so it seems possible this final game could follow suit.

The Bengals are certainly the underdog (undercat?), not only in this matchup, but from a franchise perspective as well, having never won a Super Bowl and not appearing in one since the 1980s. The Bengals also hadn't had a winning season in several years, until now.

Now in their second Los Angeles era after returning to the city in 2016, the Rams seem to have cemented themselves as "Hollywood's Team" (sorry, Charger fans). Between Los Angeles and St. Louis, the Rams have made five Super Bowl appearances, most recently a loss to the New England Patriots in 2018 in Super Bowl LIII. They won their only NFL championship in 2000, in Super Bowl XXXIV.

Not a fan of either team.

However, the Cincinnati Bengals have had such an awful record for so long, I'll be rooting for them.

I guess I can empathize with them because I'm an Eagles fan. Took them practically forever to finally win a Super Bowl title.

I am Eagle fan, but want LA to win.

I am very impressed by Bangladesh to making it to the final of the Super Bowl. Bangladesh is definitely a first world country now. I am also hoping it would win medals in the Winter Olympics.
