It proves nothing whatsoever. You did not read my post carefully. The party and the coalition that largely reveres his family name and his lineage has been in power for 10 years, the PM has often projected him as the prospective PM. He is a MP and his constituency is as poor as it was the day he took over it in 2004. He has never worked at the grass roots, he has never held a portfolio and ergo we are not going to hand him over the PM post. This isn't junior league baseball where little Joe should be give a chance to pitch. He wants a chance? He's welcome to start at the bottom, he's not going to be parachuting into the PM's chair without any prior experience. Now did you comprehend what I said or do you still want to harp about him being "given a chance"? You cannot comprehend the ludicrousness of the idea that a man who has never even been a minister at the state level should be handed the PM's post?

That being part of Punjab's problems with its debt above. This map shows the GDP rates on an average for the past 8-9 years, NOT the accumulated wealth of a state. Gujarat's GDP growth rate is greater than Punjab's. That's all there is to it.

I can read each article you provided and give an counter argument, but the first says different then what you have said, read it carefully of what the fm says:

Finance Minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa Wednesday compared state’s fiscal parameters with those of other states and the country to claim that Punjab was bettering even the targets set by the Thirteenth Finance Commission.

This when the budget for 2013-14 that he presented in the Vidhan Sabha pegged state’s outstanding debt at Rs 1,02,282 crore by the end of the year. The state also plans to borrow another Rs 9,261 crore to service its debt and mounting revenue expenditure.

“In spite of adverse circumstances, the state has been able to follow prudent debt management policy. The ratio of outstanding debt to GSDP would be 33.13 per cent with reserve funds,” Dhindsa said.

Stating that outstanding debt is not unique to Punjab, Dhindsa, during his budget speech, attributed it to long years of militancy, tax concessions to neighbouring states, rising commitment of state to welfare of poor and inadequate support from the Centre.

Bihar is in a mess. The only reason its showing high growth rate compared to UP is because the base is soo low adn its mostly driven by Govt expenditure and construction. There is zero industrial growth.

And by chance you are a Nitish kumar fan you better watch the latest NDTV special report on Bihar. should be an eye opener for you.

Yes Punjab is poorer than Gujrat. A simple search on wikipedia for GDP of Indian states would have given you the answer.

Gujrat GDP = $114.46 Billion

Punjab GDP = $47.16 Billion

So Gujrat is like twice richer than Punjab

It is counter argument of what you are stating especially the last sentence clarify a lot.

I did not got into details as i did not wanted to derail discussion but.

The type of debt that Gujrat has is different from Punjab. Punjab has accumulated debt due to insurgency and populist policies of Punjab government like free electricity.

The debt that was accrued by Punjab cause growth by reducing economic inputs like electricity but it was also an unsustainable model.

When that debt became unservicable and Punjab has to show fiscal prudence, the growth got depressed due to decrease in phantom subsidies.

Had punjab not tried to reign in it's debt, it would have grown faster but would have poised itself for a greater ruin.

India in 1987-99 period enjoyed high growth rate due to governmental spending but it contributed heavily towards Government's bankrupsy in 1991.

Gujrat has used it's debt to create assests rather than consumption.The debt of gujrat is an productive asset as it brings in revenues.

Haryana's economy is also not in a very good health as it is based on real estate boom, a bubble which could burst anytime.



Please don't make it into Glorious Punjab Vs rest issue.

well every country needs to grow in its own way. but that needs some changes in its basic system in a regular intervals. if you look at all the systems that includes communism,democracy etc., having its own negative sides and those negative sides are sometimes really obvious. but everyone is failed to accept that. And if you look at india the main and a major problem is TOO MUCH OF DEMOCRACY which causing all the struggles in development. In india sadly all the politicians and peoples are using this democracy for their own purpose not for a nation.and at the same time if you remove that democracy then that may lead to dictatorship. so everyone needs a new method in ruling. And in my opinion the new method should be based on picking all the positive sides from the existing methods like communalism,capitalism,socialism etc., But that will be difficult to keep a negative sides aside. but we barely need that. And second options that includes are TWO PARTY RULE IN CENTRAL etc., may help to reduce time in applying social reform methods in society.
