For your info, Shamsi was leased by Pakistan to the United Arab Emirates in 1992 for game hunting purposes and they (UAE) leased it to the United States for use as a base for joint Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and United States Air Force (USAF) surveillance and drone operations. The United States was ordered to vacate the airfield by the Pakistani Government only on 26 November 2011.

The United States is reportedly putting pressure on Pakistan to allow Washington to establish intelligence bases in Balochistan to gather intelligence on Iran, Indian media reported on Wednesday. According to a report published by The Times of India, the US Congress has been discussing a resolution to recognise the right of Baloch people to self-determination as a means of putting pressure on Islamabad to give in to the US demands.

The report said three officials, two from the security agencies and one from diplomatic circles, confirmed that American diplomats and military leaders had been requesting for permission to allow their agents to operate near the Iranian border in Balochistan.

Slightly dated news but indicates the pressure being put on Pakistan by the US of A for establishing an American base there to snoop on Iran. But that would mean snooping on Chinese activities as well, which has got the Chinese goat!

It's not clear if Pakistan has actually leased any land to the US or not. The Chinese PM may ask Pakistan not to do so, notwithstanding the pressure that would be brought to bear against Pakistan which is now between a rock and a hard place. A real catch 22 situation.

Let me give you an example of your adopted homeland of Canada.

-- American Embassy in Canada is the only embassy that sits closest to Canadian Parliament.

Would you then find a constipated conspiracy theory, some kind of American hegemony on Canada?
The same is true with miltiary cooperation between US and Canada.

There were weapons systems that Canada wanted to build, but instead stopped those programs in favor of America.


If you are OK with your "real" country giving away so many "goodeis" to America, then why on earth there will be so much angst in your mind about Pakistan giving a base, or any other facility to USA.

If on the other hand you have been given Chinese citizenship, then you have every right to talk bad about USA.

You're right! Mush new and so did the Pakistan government, but they allowed the Yanks to operate their drones from there under a secret understanding in order to take out the TTP/Al Qaeda elements holed out in difficult terrain where the PA found it tough to conduct operations there.
