COLOMBO, Aug 20: Following the victory of the Sri Lankan army over the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), a militant outfit once considered by many as an invincible force, Pakistan has asked Sri Lanka to provide training to its military personnel.

The government of Pakistan wants the Sri Lankan military to train its personnel in counter-insurgency operations, the Commander of the Sri Lankan Army, Lt-Gen Jagath Jayasuriya, told journalists on Thursday.

Good to get some relevant experience.

yes, they will have some valuable experience that we can hopefully utilise.

This must be a joke, cant be right. Sharing relevant experience is something else, Training....noway this cant be right.

Yep, besides we trained them during their fight although i am quite sure they know a lot more then us about COIN as they have fought COIN operations for long long period of time.

no harm in learning a few things which may be "new" to our army!

Wasnt this the opposite case i mean we were training the srilankans over how to conduct successful COIN operations, air assualt etc and the srilankans have acknowledged the same.
I dont see there is anything we can gain out of it but then again exchanging experiences is always beneficial both ways.

Very good news......i think will be more to do with security in the cities that the sri lankans have had experince in for decades and we need a bit of catching up to do on.

no this is not true. pakistan army always give training to srilankan army

R u from Mardan?

Yeah right.. Even some tamil from india said Pak army were on the front line in final fight with Tamil Tigers .. Sharing experience is one thing, but training.. don't make sense at all ..

dont just make a comment 4 the sake of it :what: when did the tamils say that ?:hitwall::hitwall:

Its a good step, learning is learning, the more the better, there is no lesser or bigger teacher, and then Sri-Lanka is a friendly neighbor country, I'd say its good for us. :agree:

The Sri Lankans have come under some heavy criticism for how they dealt with the civilian population and refugees while carrying out their assaults on LTTE bases - on that count I hope we do not learn anything, and stick to implementing the lessons learned from Bajaur to Swat, with a noticeable reduction in civilian casualties in the latest operation in Swat.

When did this become an ego issue.....I say you can never learn enough.....even if its from someone you consider insignificant!!
