Sri Lanka arrests illegal immigrants from India
Sri Lanka Navy has arrested three individuals on a fishing boat trying to enter the country illegally through the northwestern seas.
The Navy said the naval personnel attached to SLNS Gajaba of the North-central Naval Command upon observing suspicious movements onboard a fishing vessel have arrested a male and a female with a child trying to enter the country in the seas off Pesalai in Mannar.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the immigrants have boarded the fishing boat in the mid seas after they were transferred from an Indian trawler from Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu.
The Navy said the three suspects have been handed over to the Thalaimannar Police for further investigations.
The three suspects are to be produced before the Mannar magistrate today.
