Snapchat's App Rating Takes A Massive Hit On Play Store Thanks To 'Poor Indians'

The level of unemployment in India is so high that these nutjobs are now leaving fake reviews of apps in Google store just because somebody said India a poor country.

I mean how much free time you need to have to do this shit!

Snapchat CEO makes unfavourable comments on India, ‘patriotic’ Indians uninstall INDIAN Snapdeal app

In a case of mistaken identity, many people downgraded and uninstalled the mobile application of e-commerce platform ‘Snapdeal’ instead of social networking app ‘Snapchat’ to mark their protest against certain unverified comments of Snapchat CEO about the Indian market.

The social media was on Sunday abuzz with criticism against Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel after a report quoted one of the company’s former employees as saying that the top executive told him that the “app is only for rich people” and that he (CEO) was not interested in expanding the business to “poor countries” like India and Spain.

Snapchat, on its part, has rubbished the allegations.

However, soon after the controversy erupted, #BoycottSnapchat became one of the top trending topics on Twitter with over 69,000 tweets. People began to uninstall the app and give it poor ratings and reviews on various app stores.

“Dear CEO of Snapchat…why don’t you come to India and check out Indians’ phones,” wrote a user in review of Snapchat’s app. Many also went on to highlight that CEOs of top tech firms like Microsoft and Google are Indians.

Interestingly, a section of Internet users mistook Snapchat to be Snapdeal and uninstalled the e-commerce app of the latter. This came to light after netizens started posting pictures of the blunder on Twitter.

Meanwhile, Snapdeal co-founder and CEO Kunal Bahl tweeted, “Ppl asking us to make a statement that @snapdeal is not @snapchat was possibly the last thing I thought I would ever need to do”.

@thetanmay Thanks bud. Ppl asking us to make a statement that @snapdeal is not @snapchat was possibly the last thing I thought I would ever need to do.

Many users also explained how the two apps were different.

“Time to balance the ratings…guys its Snapchat’s CEO who said bad things. You are making Snapdeal pay that…please change your ratings,” wrote one of them.

The incident also brought out the creative side of many.

A certain meme being circulated quipped “hum James Bond se Gutka bikwate Hai” (we make James Bond sell Gutka–a mix of tobacco, areca nut and other ingredients).

Snapdeal, which has been in news for a potential sell out to larger rival Flipkart, has faced a similar downgrade in 2015 when its then-brand ambassador Aamir Khan made a comment on growing ‘intolerance in the country.

It’s not the first time Snapdeal has had to bear the brunt of public anger for no fault of its own. In December 2015, the ecommerce giant had faced anger from the BJP supporters after its brand ambassador Aamir Khan expressed his wife’s fear on the growing religious intolerance in India.

There is something called brand loyalty! These fake reviews wouldn't make Snapchat go bankrupt, rather could act as a negative marketing.

This time I'm in favor of Indians, the company has a disgusting arrogance.
I cant believe, I am giving thanks to you post....

What is happening to the CEOs of the biggest brands on this world. United, Pepsi, Snapchat etc...Are these people really cutoff from the real world ? They have forgotten the word called humble and compassion. These words seems to be alien to them and sitting on piles of cash, they are considering everyone as junk.

it wont effect Snap INC too much they are way too popular here in the west to worry about Indian users.

But its interesting the comment mentioned dish "poor countries like india and spain" how is Spain a poor country?
And you dont see the spanish out raged and leaving bad reviews.

the worlds gone mad

I come from a poor family, we use hard to change the fate. But we will not forget —— we are the offspring of the poor people.

Jack Ma's childhood is more poor, but now he is the richest man in China, his Alibaba group is the world's largest e-commerce company. The same fate. including Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun, Jingdong CEO Liu Qiangdong, Lenovo's former CEO Liu Chuanzhi... And most Chinese private companies CEO.

Sorry, I didn't hear they laughed at the poor.

There is a proverb in China —— 莫欺少年穷。. Don‘t bully the poor of the young,. Because God knows if he will be a millionaire.

But for the company... Are they really rich? Will the real rich waste time in a APP? So only the poor people (including me and you) will use this APP. So, The poor people are the biggest customers of the company.

Sorry, I can't spell the name of the company... And I don't want to copy it.

Gone are days of Brand loyalty in digital world, its more driven by trends.
Yahoo Chat, Orkut, MySpace, AIM all are gone they could not keep themselves up in trending charts.
With kind of mass India has, it can change dynamics of any web provider. A top app in USA with 100k Positives can be killed by 200k Negative Rating by Indians. All the investors game in this unseen world is based on user base and its market image.

Clearly shows how companies goes into oblivion. Sometimes success makes you drunk. When majority of world wide companies from US to China wants a pie in Indian market, some people act weirdly.

By the way, since when Spain become a poor country? The CEO seem to have no knowledge of the world.

The American view - except for the US, the whole world is poor.
Trust me, they really think so.
