(Xinhua) 08:34, April 24, 2017

QINGDAO, April 23 -- A Singaporean warship arrived Sunday at Chinese city Qingdao for a four-day visit and joint drill.

The North Sea Fleet of the Chinese People's Liberation Army(PLA) Navy held a ceremony to welcome missile frigate RSS Intrepid, which is accompanied by Chinese ship Yancheng. Altogether 141 Singaporean naval staff were on board the frigate.

The two navies will visit each other's ships and hold exchange activities.

After the visit, the RSS Intrepid and Yancheng will conduct a joint drill practising the Code for Unalerted Encounters at Sea, focusing on simple subjects such as communication and formation maneuvers.

This is improve cooperation and understanding between the two navies.

I look forward the days when China's naval force incl. aircraft carrier may eventually be allowed to stop by at Singapore port for replenishment, refueling, etc (just in case the PLA Navy ever needs such services from the tiny island)... just like the kind of services the Singapore is providing to the US naval fleet and CVBG currently :D :P only this kind of development will show the genuine strong relationship of the Merlion City beyond the superficial substance.... since it has been opening its port to the USA Navy then it should be able to offer the same services to the PLA Navy too... as it claims to have the equally good relationships. Gradual REAL progress is just fine... but 2025 - 2030 should be reasonable timetable for more comprehensive support.

Real action is worth of thousand of nice words :blah::blah: Until then, it is not quite real... :-)

Read it here.

Xue Li, a senior research fellow at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences think tank, said China’s decision not to invite the Singaporean leader reflected a growing belief in Beijing that the Lion City sought only economic benefits from China, while “relying on the US for security”.

Singapore port facilities are already close to China so it's not much use to China.
But for United States, because of its proximity to South China Sea, Singapore port facilities is very useful for United States to harm China's interest.
So by saying that both US and China can use Singapore port does not mean Singapore is neutral.
