Shahbaz Sharif elected new Punjab CM
LAHORE: The President of Pakistan Muslim League (N), Mian Shahbaz Sharif has been elected as new Punjab Chief Minister. Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer will administer the oath from new CM today at Governor House.
Shahbaz Sharif secured 265 votes in the House of 371, which prompted showering spontaneous series of greetings on Shahbaz Sharif within the House. Opposition had not put up any candidate for the chief minister slot. Prior to the session, Muslim League-Qs members of Punjab Assembly under the leadership of the opposition leader, Chaudhry Zaheeruddin staged a protest in front of the Assembly Hall, but later the protest was called off after sometime and the opposition member went away from the protest camp.
Mian Shahbaz Sharif was elected unopposed chief minister in yesterdays voting held in the Assembly, as no other candidate had submitted nomination papers for chief minister election, while the Q-League preferred boycotting the proceeding. Muslim League-N, PPP< Muslim League-F, MMA and other members of Assembly in the government alliance unanimously nominated Shahbaz Sharif as Leader of the Punjab House. Mian Shahbaz Sharif is the 21st chief minister of Punjab, while he had held this post earlier also.
