Science & Technology in the Muslim world

There is no reason why Muslims can't outdo the supposedly high IQ Chinese and Japanese. All they need is to become more like they were in the 7th century in term of religiousity. what worked once can always work again.

Wright yara,

Didn't expect you will say this. Being sarcastic?

You really thing we need to go back to 7th century?

Do you know how long ago was that?

--- One Thousand four hundred years ago.
--- Science back then was dealing with basic basic stuff and people used to pee and dump out in the open.
--- Very primitive lifestyle dare I say.
--- So the science was limited limited limited in so many ways.

Looks like you were kidding. right?

Respectfully, I can not agree and I find some assumptions plain contradictory to my understanding.......
..l.

Respect will always be there Sir. Always. I learn so much during our discussions. Keep it going.

R....

How can some one ready about stars, planets, gravity, sky, mountains, seasons etc in Quran and yet he is not compelled to study more and understand their working ?.....l.

Proof is in the pudding. Right?

Science like everything else is "non-religious".

the more we emphasize, Muslimness in science, the dumber we'll get.

It is that simple.

Quran is a holy book of morals and lessons based on stories of the ancient times. It is not a book on biology, or mathematics, or chemistry.

Muslims educated elite are so ignorant they keep on bringing Quran in discussion on science.

Science is when you make your mind free of everything.

You forget about everything else even God, and focus on just a small point in science that you want to work on.

That's it.

That's when God comes and helps you.

That's when

"Khuda Bunday say khud poochay"
" Bata teri Raza Kiya hai"

How do you explain the Muslim success in every field of science, literature and humanities for a thousand plus years?

How can one forget about everything else even God, and focus on just a small point in science that he wants to work on ? While science is about the laws of nature set by GOD himself.
So, by concentrating on science, you already acknowledge the existence of GOD, you like it or not .That's when God comes and helps you to further open you eyes.
Muslim scientists who are close to religion, can see the links very clearly by following the advice of the creator to his creation; in the Koran the emphasis on the word science is so much prominent that one has to be or pretend to be blind not to see it.
One has just to find an equilibrium in his life between his religious duties (obligations & rights) and his earthly life (obligations & rights), in order to see the missing link, and not to confuse them, since they both are compatible with high self esteem based on higher sense of ethics.
To sum it up, one does not have to put religion aside to be able to advance in sciences, but if his religion blinds him and shuts his brains, than your advice is better than mine.
We all know that most westerners do not follow any religion, that Hindus are polytheists (they might still argue with that!), that very few Jews are really religious and all they study is the Talmud. But for the Muslims, the message that came with the prophet was to not follow those religions, and mainly because the people who appropriated them for themselves were attempting by all means to control the minds of their followers and hence discourage them from seeking high levels of knowledge in order to keep them under the control of the few religious elite (ignorants themselves).
History is the proof of what I am saying, be it in Europe or in Asia or elsewhere.
Islam was than the real intellectual, cultural and scientific revolution that has changed the modern world, historical facts are witnesses to this advent.

Scientific and religious point of view are always contradictory to each other.Religious POV is guided by set of beliefs whereas , Scientific POV is guided by Free and rational thinking.

No holy book can explain infinite phenomenon that exist in our Uni/multiverse.
What does the science do.?.It trashes these old irrational belief and make us realize what's the truth.Sometimes these truths were so rigid that it forced the believers to kill that scientific person(Galileo challenged geocentric theory and hence he was given death order by the church).

Astronomy in abrahamic religions is based on Geocentric model. It challenges basic Darwin's theory of evolution. All these assumption are wrong so ,it is safe to all religious thinking is Unscientific.

Koran talks about all universal phenomena in general terms and advices for pursuing the matter by studying them in a scientific way.

When you talk about Abrahamic religions , do not put Islam with them, since the fact that most star names are Arabic post Islam is does not fit the label.
Please read post #33 again...

Scientific revolution:Hell no.
Islam follows geocentric and Adam & eve concept is'nt it.?
Now we all know that all these things are wrong. There was no Adam & eve nor Geocentric model.Like i said before, there is no religion which is scientific. All assumptions are taken form other religions or are man made.

What if scientific explanation differs from that in holy book ?.Will false beliefs like Geocentric and Adan&eve concept will removed from Holy texts ?.

I don't know much about Abrahmic religions so i won't comment on that but Hinduism involves a lot of Scientific concepts n thats a fact.

Since this thread does not relates to Hinduism so i won't go off topic here but just few examples like we have the Vedic Maths, there r numerous examples about modern science r available in our Ancient scriptures like Mahabharata n others, even my own Grandfather has written an entire book on Modern Physics concepts available in the Vedas.:)

Yeah, but some predictions and beliefs are not correct.Like age of universe accroding to hindusium is 155.1 Trillion years(51th year of brahma) and is 14.3 Billion years if we go by CMR data.
Though both science and hinduism agree on origin and expansion of universe concept.

I may be wrong though,IMO Vedic Maths are not related to vedas instead it's just a name for it.Great, have you read that book.?

wow and this thread suppose to be muslim world and science but we have dedicated trolls turing into bollywood's religion and science, i guess ghandi cola works

OK. Forget the "golden age". That is soooooooooooo over. Muslim science has been overwhelmed by western science. Why? It's not the human beings. Muslim scientists who work in the "west" win Nobel prizes, make technical discoveries every bit as important as non-Muslims, found prosperous tech companies. So, there must be something in the culture of Muslim societies, today, that is inhospitable to advanced scientific work. Muslim societies need to identify what those impediments are and change them, if they are ever to compete with non-Muslim societies. And, by "non-Muslim" societies I also mean non-western, non-Christian societies such as China, Taiwan, South Korea and Japan.

point taken but why are there non muslim and even athiests countries waay behind in science? and just recently started catching up?

Brother we still have very little knowledge with respect to Universerse so IMO we r still not in a position to decide whether many things r correct or not untill further research is done.

I believe that God is pure science we have the example of the Great Ramanujan some of his greatest works were bcoz of the knowledge he gained in his dreams from the Goddess he worshiped, that might sound crazy to many but i believe its true.

As far as Vedic Maths is concerned it basically consists of 16 formulas which were discovered by Shree Adi Shankracharya of Puri.

According to him he discovered these formulas through deep study of Vedas n meditation. However, u n i won't be able to find any direct source in Vedas for the same bcoz many things r kind of encrypted in Vedas too.

I'll give an example there is a Bhakti Mantra of Krishna(i don't rem the exact mantra:P) which when converted to numbers(through some key) gives u the value of pie upto 19 decimals.

Similar thing was told to me by my Late Grandfather that many of the stories we read in our epics r actually scientific methods or things that happen in the course of time in encrypted format but unfortunately we don't have the right key to unlock them so u have use ur knowledge n experience to unlock them.

Now about his book i have read only some parts of it, its name is Vedic Physics which is published by Motilal Banarasi Das.

He has taken completely different approach, like according to him Brahma actually means Atom n them he has further explained why he thinks so n what r its implications.

But the content is too strong for me to understand at times bcoz of my limited knowledge with respect to Sanskrit n Physics(i m from comm. background though having decent knowledge about elementary physics) n unfortunately my Grandfather is no more to explain me the content.:undecided:

There is a lot which i would have liked to share but unfortunately this is not the right thread to discuss all these things.:)

Sorry to sound rhetorical.

But

How do you explain that the center of Islam, modern day Saudi Arabia has been the heart of intellectual and scientific darkness for centuries upon centuries upon centuries?

Also do a simple geometry here (you are scientist right?)

Take Makkah as center.

Draw circles around it.

Put all the famous scientists and their cities on a circle closest to their home.

Figure out the diameter of the circle on which a city with famous Muslim scientist is.

Then come back and tell us the average distance of Muslim scientist from Makkah.

Thank you.

he is a moron he will keep ranting and try to divert the issue and ridicule Islam

he is mindless zombie impressed by west like an urdu saying a pando who comes to city and is impressed by buildings and lighting and looks at them like a fool

this is his case west ka patwari

Thank you.

You are talking about one century of colonialism, before that Mekkah gave the impetus to islamic sciences, since the avenue of the prophet Mohammad. So, the darkness seems to be in the beholders mind not in reality.

Here is something to meditate on:
