Saudi Arabia’s energy minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman said on Wednesday the Kingdom intended to use its domestic uranium for the entire nuclear fuel cycle.

He added that recent exploration had shown a diverse portfolio of uranium in the country.

Saudi Arabia has a nascent nuclear program that it wants to expand.

“The Kingdom intends to utilize its national uranium resources, including in joint ventures with willing partners in accordance with international commitments and transparency standards.”

He told a mining industry conference in Riyadh that this would involve “the entire nuclear fuel cycle which involves the production of yellowcake, low enriched uranium and the manufacturing of nuclear fuel both for our national use and of course for export.”

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman said in 2018 it would develop nuclear weapons if regional rival Iran did.

KSA is not even hiding it any longer (never did frankly) and who can blame them? Expected development that was discussed before.

This news combined with the physical evidence of a domestic Saudi Arabian ballistic missile program, close Chinese cooperation dating back to the 1980's (in terms of missile technology), the regional situation, the Pakistani nuclear connection and everyone else can guess the rest.

Dang!!! They have uranium too!! Looks like that place is blessed...

Dang!!! They have uranium too!! Looks like that place is blessed...

5-10% of all the world's uranium, apparently.

Saudi Arabia is a massive natural resources and mineral superpower so no surprises. Add a huge territory and landmass.

Compare wealth to population ratio and there is no competition even. Quite insane.

Most importantly, huge areas of KSA are undiscovered when it comes to oil, gas, minerals etc. which is why it is so common to hear of new discoveries. The latest (today) being huge new gold and copper discoveries.
