MOSCOW, December 28. /TASS/. Russia’s MC-21 civilian aircraft has received a basic type certificate, Industry and Trade Minister Denis Manturov told reporters.
"The MC-21 aircraft has received a basic type certificate today," he said.
The basic certification assumes the use of an American Pratt&Whitney (PW140) engine and a wing made of materials from abroad.
Next year, the certificate will be amended to allow the use of the Russian composite wing and the PD-14 engine in the aircraft, the minister added.

"Certification flights to expand the certificate will continue next year and in 2023, as it will expand until 2024. The changes to the certificate, implying the use of a Russian composite wing and a Russian engine, are planned for 2022," the minister said.
"Obtaining a type certificate from the Federal Air Transport Agency is a milestone event for the MC-21 program and the aviation industry. The document confirms that the MC-21-310 aircraft is ready for full-scale serial production. The airliner turned out to be modern, beautiful and world-class, without exaggeration. It has a number of constructive innovations and the widest salon among the same-class aircraft. I am sure both airlines and passengers will appreciate it," head of Rostec, Sergey Chemezov, said as quoted by the corporation’s press service.
"In 2022, we will focus our efforts on expanding the type certificate for the MC-21-300 aircraft. First of all, we will complete the certification of an aircraft with a wing made of Russian composite materials. We will also test the plane in high altitude conditions, strong crosswinds, low and high temperatures. This will allow Rossiya Airlines to operate the MC-21-300 in any geographic zones," Irkut Corporation CEO Andrey Boginsky said.
On December 25, the MC-21 plane with a domestically-designed composite wing carried out its first flight.
The MC-21-300 middle-range aircraft with wings made of Russian composite materials completed its maiden flight on December 25. The plane was developed by the Irkut Corporation, which is part of the United Aircraft Corporation controlled by Rostec.
Earlier this month, Manturov said that commercial deliveries of the aircraft were to start next year.

Nice platform. I hope the new Aviadvigatel PD-14 engine will make it closer to compete with Airbus New generation single aisle jets (A320NEO series).

But, with a Western engine (Pratt & Whitney PW1000G class) offered, that would boost sales quite a bit. PW1000 series is going through their own series of teething problems, especially with US and Indian operators of A320NEO which use these engines.

In any case, wish the program and its workers renewed success in 2022.

Russia’s new utility plane makes its maiden flight — minister

The plane was developed by the Baikal-Engineering company under the contract with the Russian ministry of industry and trade and is meant to be used by local airlines

MOSCOW, January 30-. /TASS/. Baikal, a Russian single-engine utility plane to be used by local airlines and in hard-to-reach areas, has made its maiden flight in Yekaterinburg, Russian Industry and Trade Minister Denis Manturov said on Sunday.
"The Baikal LMS-901 single-engine multi-purpose plane has made its maiden flight," he said.
The plane was developed by the Baikal-Engineering company under the contract with the Russian ministry of industry and trade and is meant to be used by local airlines.
The plane took off from an airdrome in Yekaterinburg and spent 25 minutes in mid-air at an altitude of 500 meters.

The plane will be demonstrated at the ninth NIAS 2022 national exhibition and forum of civil aviation infrastructure in Moscow on February 9-10.
"The Baikal project will make it possible to enliven traffic along local routes, to resolve problems of transport accessibility, first of all in the Far East," Manturov noted.
Manturov said earlier that mass production of the new nine-seating plane would begin in 2023. The Urals Civil Aviation Plant hopes to sign a contract for the manufacture of teen such plane in 2023-2025, the plant’s director, Oleg Bogomolov, told TASS in the summer.
According to him, the plane should cost 120 million rubles (about $1.6 million at the current exchange rate) in its basic version. The potential state order for the aircraft is estimated at 300 planes by 2030.
Russian light multipurpose single-engine aircraft Baikal was designed by Ural Civil Aviation Plant’s subsidiary Baikal Engineering to replace the outdated Soviet-made An-2 aircraft. The plane was created to increase transport accessibility of remote Russian regions and help develop local air service.
The plane can carry a payload of two tonnes and cover up to 1,500 kilometers with the cruise speed of 300 kmph.

Rostec Created Russian-Made Engine Control System for SSJ-NEW

Rostec’s United Engine Corporation has created an automatic control system (ACS) for the new PD-8 aircraft engine, which is planned to equip the SSJ-NEW passenger airliner. The equipment that controls the operation of the power plant, including thrust parameters and fuel consumption, is assembled from 100% domestic components and materials.


Specialists of the Perm-based "UEC-STAR" enterprise completed the development of the PD-8 ACS in shortest time possible: it took just a year and a half to get from signing the technical assignment to the assembly of the first sample. Mass production of this equipment is scheduled to start in 2023 when the qualification work is completed and permits are obtained.


“The automatic control system for the PD-8 engine to equip the SSJ-NEW airliner used within the framework of the import substitution program will be assembled from completely domestic materials and electronic components. The system has a long service life and is resistant to failures. In January 2022, it will complete fine-tuning and bench testing, after which it will be handed over for bench tests as part of the engine,” said Vladimir Artyakov, First Deputy General Director of Rostec State Corporation.


To recap, Rostec presented the PD-8 gas generator, the “heart” of the PD-8 engine, at MAKS air show in 2021. At the moment, two copies of the gas generator have been assembled and have successfully passed the tests. The tests confirmed the correct operation of the units, meeting the required temperature and pressure parameters, and their compliance with the relevant environmental standards. Obtaining a type certificate for the PD-8 is scheduled for 2023.


The creation of the PD-8 basic propulsion system for use in the SSJ-NEW aircraft is carried out in broad cooperation between UEC enterprises using the experience of making the PD-14 engine.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Russia's United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) plans to launch the maiden flight of a domestically produced passenger plane Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SSJ100) equipped with a Russian-made PD-8 engine early next year, UAC Director General Yury Slyusar said on Friday.
"The first flight [will be launched in] the first quarter of next year... in 2023 there will be rigorous testing of the Superjet aircraft with the new PD-8 engine," Slyusar told Rossiya 24 broadcaster.
Slyusar noted that the new engine is expected to be supplied by the end of the year for installation and preparation for the first flight.
The SSJ100 jet is designed by Sukhoi Civil Aircraft, a division of the state-led UAC. It is designed to carry 98 passengers over a distance of about 4,400 kilometres (2,734 miles). The aircraft made its first flight in May 2008, and was put into commercial operation in 2011.
The wave of EU sanctions against Russia over its military operation in Ukraine banned sales of aircraft and their parts to Russian companies and obligated European leasing companies to retrieve all leased planes from Russia. According to the aviation analytic firm Cirium, Russia holds 980 passenger jets in service, 515 of which are leased from foreign lessors.
Currently, the UAC is upgrading a new version of the SSJ100 to correspond with the import-substituted SSJ New.
