The Russian Navy’s fourth Project 11356 frigate will have its keel laid on Thursday, the Yantar shipyard said on Monday.

The start of construction work on the Admiral Butakov frigate was postponed in October 2012.

The Kaliningrad-based shipyard is to build a total of six Project 11356 frigates under a contract with the Defense Ministry.

The lead warship in the series, the Admiral Grigorovich, was laid down in December 2010, the second, the Admiral Essen, in July 2011 and the third, the Admiral Makarov, in February 2012.

The shipyard is to hand over the six warships to the Navy between 2014 and 2016.

Project 11356 frigates are designed for anti-ship and anti-submarine warfare on the high seas, and for anti-aircraft operations, both independently and as an escort ship. The vessels are armed with strike anti-ship and surface-to-air missiles, gun mounts, torpedoes and bombs, according to navaltoday.com.

That is a Krivak Class of ships. The Russian series seems to be Krivak II while the Indian "Talwar class" is considered to be the more advanced Krivak IV class. There was a report that the Russian Navy was so impressed by the Talwar Class during Sea Trials that they wished to acquire an analogous version of it. If that is so, then this order would be for Krivak IV which has been Proj.11356 for the Indian Order. The Indian Navy will have another follow-on of another 3 after delivery of the Teg Series.

Three ships have been ordered so far to be built by the "Yantar" shipyard in Kaliningrad. The frigates are based on the Talwar-class frigate, six of which were ordered by the Indian Navy and were built at the same shipyard. The Talwar class is in turn based on the Burevestnik-class frigates.

"Based" on and "Modified" are two different things.

Besides all three frigates are out classed by Admiral Gorshkov-class anyway.:D

Yes but those are building exceedingly slow. So, to keep up the numbers the Russian navy has chosen to also adopt the Krivak IV / Talwar design. Which in itself says enough about how much and for what and where they will rely on the Gorshkov class. Threats to, tasks of and hence needs of the Pacific, Black Sea, Baltic and North fleets may be quite different ...

any pics since russia is world best naval arm maker and also airforce arm maker but i count russia number one in nvala arm i want to see the pics of the new frigate.

grigorovich class is almost exactly same as talwar cl*** minus the israeli radars and sensors replaced by russian types.6 are planned.
The future russian frigate is the badass admiral gorshkov class with 15-20 planned.
They are similar to talwar but with 2 differences - can launch double numbers of klub/brahmos/oniks.Paket ASW system with torpedo tubes in place of rbu-6000 and torpedo tubes and most important New gen REDUT VLS to replace shtil-1.
