The French newspaper La Tribune, which has reliable information about arms programs related to the French defense industry, reported that Saudi Arabia is in talks with France in order to purchase at least a hundred Rafale fighters, or even 200, are mentioned, as well as to participate in France's sixth generation fighter FCAS program.

The Saudis had previously considered purchasing the Rafale in 2006, and Chirac then hoped to sell 72 of the fighters. In the end, the Saudis chose the Typhoon and the F-15SE. The thing is, since then, a lot has changed. For starters, there were various problems with deliveries from the US, and in the end Trump had to be elected in order for everything to go as it should!

Germany also causes a lot of problems for the Saudis, as it delays as much as possible the delivery of German-made weapons, for example the gearbox of the MMSC frigates, which is of German origin, and the United States is not always on good terms with the Saudis,

On the other hand, the French have proven to be more resilient, and they tirelessly support whatever weapons and systems the Saudis have. The Emirates also received the SCALP EG cruise missile many years ago, and recently purchased 80 Rafale F4 aircraft. At the same time, Egypt is very content with the French, issuing important high-tech weapons systems.

In short, the US rejection of the F-35 offer, first to the Emirates and then to Saudi Arabia, will lead to a jump in Rafale sales. The United Arab Emirates is a contribution to the development of the F4 version, while the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will now enter into the financing of FCAS and the Saudi financial contribution is considered more important than the German financial contribution. So that Dassault can continue the FCAS program alone, leading to a major restructuring of the aviation industry around the world.

The information states that discussions are about "replacing all aging F-15s as well as Tornado IDS".

Well at least the french , are willing to spend what it takes to develop their own engines & technology to be independent of USA or others that could veto any foreign sales!!!

Ps , it’s.a huge order by Saudis if this is correct

The Rafale finally seeing its light of day - and possibly getting exposed to multinational instructors within the RSAF? Although they have mostly weaned off those

30 for Egypt , 80 for UAE, and 42 for Indonesia in the last 12 months , the Rafale program is paying for itself

Why are the Saudi's buying another 4th Gen jet when they already have the Eurofighters
and the F15's? They should move onto the 5th Gen.
Not every nation needs an expensive to operate and difficult to use F35 5th gen fighter. F35 is best used by first world nato countries , Saudis don’t need an F35 or can’t get it because Saudis isn’t in the “fold” . For national defense a 4.5, gen fighters are usually more than enough do the job

Not a good choice they have the money invest in new locally produced fighter jet

Well they want the French 6th generation FCAS with it..

What if they get a production line for the Rafale with much ToT..still very tempting..

Nope, real contract for Indonesia is just 6 plane. 42 plane is just MOU ( our Defense Minister plan ).

In Indonesia military acquisition needs approval from both Minister of Planning and Minister of Finance.

Considering the potential numbers; more then what India wants to procure while they make a similar requirement, it would reasonable to require by the Saudis.

No ! Not for the Indian 36 Rafale jets ordered for Euros 7.87 billions. Technology transfer requires a bulky order, France may provide ToT if it wins MMRCA 2.0.

Yes, that what I meant; if it wins the MMRCA 2.0

Hi one need to dig out the way USA trying to compensate the French to let other nations buy Rafale as french been blocked by USA not to export nuclear subs to Australia & if we go by logic plus the money involved in supplying subs to Aussies people can do maths easily how much money involved in those subs as compare to supplying Rafale
any how I’m not against not to buy French technology but we all should remember in Middle East if USA is willing to let got the order to be supplied by other estates that is totally in agreement with mighty USA
rest assured Rafale is not a bad plane but no where to be compensated against F35 im sure in coming years Chinese will be the First Nation to export J31/35 to uae & KSA
thank you

Not a technology expert or something but I think Rafale vs F-35 will be a close fight. That's why countries who can't afford F-35 or USA restrict them from buying it are purchasing Rafales to compensate the F-35.

What absolute nonsense! Not even 5 Rafales will be able to take on one F-35.
