I would like to know the status of Qing submarine Acquisition for Pakistan Navy. The first Qing rolled of the production line in 2012 and started a one year long "Sea Trials" which should have completed in 2013.

Do our Chinese Friends know how these Sea Trials went and what is the status of further Production Schedule.

Pakistan’s efforts to have a sea-based minimum credible nuclear deterrent vis-a-vis India took a significant step forward last month when the state-owned, Wuhan-based China State Shipbuilding Industrial Corp (CSIC) ferried the first Qing-class conventional attack submarine (SSK) to Shanghai to begin a year-long series of sea trials, which is likely to include the test-firing of three CJ-10K submarine-launched, 1,500km-range land attack cruise missiles (LACM) capable of being armed with unitary tactical nuclear warheads. Called the Qing-class SSK, it is a variant of the Type 041A Improved Yuan-class SSK, which is also due to begin its sea trials later this month.

It is now believed that the contract inked between CSIC and Pakistan early last April (see FORCE April 2011, pages 16-17) calls for the CSIC’s Wuhan-based Wuchang Shipyard to supply six Qing-class SSKs, all of which will be equipped with a Stirling-cycle AIP system and will be able to carry up to three nuclear warhead-carrying CJ-10K LACMs each. The double-hulled Qing-class SSK, with a submerged displacement close to 3,600 tonnes, bears a close resemblance to the Russian Type 636M SSK, and features hull-retractable foreplanes and hydrodynamically streamlined sail. The first such SSK was launched in Wuhan on September 9 last year, and a total of three such SSKs are on order from China’s PLA Navy as well. The AIP system for the Qing-class SSK was developed by the 711th Research Institute of CSIC. R&D work began in June 1996, with a 100-strong team of scientists and engineers led by Dr Jin Donghan being involved in developing the Stirling-cycle engine, while another team led Professor Ma Weiming of China’s Naval Engineering University began developing the all-electric AIP system. The two projects entered the production engineering stage in 2007, with the Shanghai Qiyao Propulsion Technology Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of the 711th Institute, becoming the principal industrial entity charged with producing the AIP system. Incidentally, the Qing-class SSK’s all-electric propulsion system is a derivative of a similar system that was developed about a decade ago for the PLA Navy’s six Type 093 Shang-class SSGNs and three Type 094 Jin-class SSBNs.

The submarine-launched CJ-10K LACM has been developed by the China Aerospace Science and Industry Corp’s (CASIC) Hubei-based Ninth Academy (also known as the Sanjiang Aerospace Group, or 066 Base) on cooperation with the Third Academy’s Beijing-based Xinghang Electromechanical Equipment Factory (159 Factory). Final assembly of the CJ-10K is undertaken by the Beijing-based Hangxing Machine Building Factory (239 Factory). The CJ-10K features an imaging infra-red optronic system for terminal homing, and it makes use of a ring laser gyro-based inertial navigation system combined with a GPS receiver to receive navigational updates from China’s ‘Beidou’ constellation of GPS navigation satellites.

In another development, during Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani’s four-day official visit to China beginning May 17, the decks were cleared for the Pakistan Navy to acquire for a 10-year lease period the two Jiangkai I-class Type 054 guided-missile frigates (FFG) Ma’anshan (FFG-525) and Wenzhou (FFG-526), which have been in service with the PLA Navy’s East Sea Fleet since 2005 (see FORCE December 2010, pages 44-46).

PLA's Type 032 submarine to test JL2 ICBMs: expert

Designed as a test platform for the PLA Navy, the primary mission of the Type 032 Qing-class submarine is to test-launch advanced weaponry like the JL-2 intercontinental ballistic missile, according to Richard Fisher, an expert on Chinese military affairs, in a article written for the UK-based Jane's Defence Weekly on July 23.

The development of China's Qing-class submarine began in January 2005 and was completed in 2010. It entered service with the PLA Navy on Oct. 16 last year and is said to be ready to conduct weapons tests this year. With a displacement of 3,797 tonnes and a submerged displacement of 6,628 tonnes, the Type 032 is currently the world's largest conventional submarine.

After analyzing photos published online, Fisher said that the Type 032 can carry at least two of China's JL-2 intercontinental ballistic missiles. Since the maximum range of the JL-2 is 14,000 kilometers, it can reach the continental United States when launched from Chinese littoral waters. However, it is also said that the Type 032 would not be able to fire JL-2 missiles vertically from its tubes in front of the sail.

Various weapon systems including anti-aircraft, cruise and even fiber-optic guided missiles can be launched from the submarine, Fisher said. This shows that the Type 032 is not only designed as a type of strategic offensive arms, but can also be used to conduct tactical missions against enemy carriers in the Asia-Pacific region.

Fisher added that operations can also be launched from the Type 032 submarine by the special forces or unmanned underwater vehicles.

(This article has been amended. The original version published on Aug. 1 quoted Mr. Fisher as saying that China is currently the only nation to construct a submarine with similar capabilities to the Ohio-class ballistic missile submarines of the United States Navy. Both the attribution of the statement and its content were erroneous and the article has been changed to reflect this. We apologize to Mr. Fisher for the mistake.)

China Exporting Submarines For Pakistans Nuclear Triad [/paste:font]

From the June 2011 issue of FORCE magazine, an Indian National Security and Defense magazine, comes this remarkable article.
The submarines will be armed with cruise missiles designed, built, and delivered by China to Pakistan intended to launch Pakistan nuclear warheads.

The most troubling part of this article is that it is very probably accurate. The article is worth reading in full, as it also claims China is giving the Pakistan Navy two Jiangkai I-class Type 054 frigates.

In the past it Has been Reported that Pakistan is getting 039 class "Songs" or 041 class Yuan class From china But now reports emerge that it is the latest variant of 041 class named "QING" class submarines for which a deal was inked for 6.

The first Qing class built for Chinese Navy was launched last year and will be going through the sea trial this month 6/2011 which will include the firing of CJ-10K LACms with a range of 1,500 KM.

The deal was signed between Wuhan-based China State Shipbuilding Industrial Corp (CSIC) and Pakistani Government in April 2011 is for 6 Qing class submarine, These submarines will be double hulled with a submerged displacement of 3,600 tons. It will be equipped with the new Stirling-cycle AIP and will be able to carry upto 3 CJ-10K which could carry nuclear warheds, Other features include hull retractable foreplanes and hydrodynamically streamlined sail. The AIP and the propulsion systems will be all electric and not the diesal electric propulsion system making the submarines very quiet. This propulsion system has already been tested on a number of heavier Chinese submarines.

And In the other development is Pakistan has also signed a deal for a 10 year leaso of 2 Type 054A FFGs. The two ships that Pakistan will receive are serial number 525 and 526 inducted in PLAN in 2005.

PLA said to have built world's largest conventional submarine

The Type 032 Qing-class test submarine. (Internet photo)

Military Photos.net, a website dedicated to global military development based in the United States, has published photos to suggest that China's PLA Navy has recently constructed the world's largest conventional submarine.

The submarine shown in the photo is claimed to be a Type 032 Qing-class test submarine, designed as a new diesel-electric ballistic missile submarine to replace the older Golf-class submarines. With a submerged displacement of 6,628 tonnes, the Qing-class is currently the largest diesel-electric submarine in the world. The development of
the submarine began in 2005 and was completed in 2010. It entered service with the PLA Navy on Oct. 16 last year and is ready to conduct weapons tests this year.

Before the Type 032, the I-400 of the Imperial Japanese Navy constructed during World War II was the largest diesel-electric submarine ever built. With the ability to carry three Aichi M6A1 Seiran sea-planes, the I-400 was designed to launch air attacks against the Panama Canal. China's Type 032 will be able to launch various weapons including the JL-2A submarine-launched ballistic missile, CJ-20A cruise missiles and the YJ-18 anti-ship missile.

Military Photos.net noted that the submarine is able to remain submerged for up to 30 days and could become a deadly threat to the national security of the United States. Although the JL-2A with its range of 4,500 miles cannot reach the continental United States when launched from the coast of China, it could do so if the missile were launched from a Qing-class submarine off Hawaii.

China has showcased a brand new sub with fuel cell AIP (like U214) just a few weeks ago. The pictures have been posted.

I think that might be the Qing class as this sub in above article is in my opinion a 'testbed' not an operational sub.

Yes, I agree with you that this one Submarine is a Test Platform to test the JL-2 Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles. The Qings Pakistan signed up for won't be ready before 2016/17 timeframe. So Far, the Defence Ministry in China is holding the Cards close to the Chest and not revealing much. If what I am hearing is true, these Subs are going to be extremely Quiet and at 6628 Tonnes of Total Submerged Displacement they would be behemoth Vessels.

They might not be that large. I think its international press buying our disinformation campaign. :D

I think our Qings maybe around 2000-3000 tonne range with fuel cell AIP.

If we get them all by 2020 we would have 11 AIP subs...and around 13 frigates.....a very decent fighting force. !

why cant we work with China to make a submarine like the JF Thunder? i sure our engineers know a few things maybe? then maybe we can produce it in Pakistan like the JF Thunder, maybe?

We need to have few more corvettes hope Adaa class corvettes and how 13 frigates ?

Depends on funds.

Ideally. 8X F-22Ps, 4X OHPs with Genisis, 2X Type54s.
Yes thats perfect we dont have big sea to covert its more than enough and indie enemies aint gonna send all its fleet to attack us ideally 10 frigates and 3-4 subs plus a carrier for which inshallah jf17 proposed will be ready
