Members of the public have raised almost £20,000 in two days for a woman and her cousin who suffered an unprovoked acid attack on her 21st birthday.

Resham Khan and Jameel Muhktar were attacked with sulphuric acid while driving at around 9am on June 21 in Beckton, east London. The pair had stopped at traffic lights when a man threw the substance over them through an open window.

Their injuries were extensive, and they are still recovering in hospital as they and their family worry that the attack changed their lives forever.

Writing on social media, Miss Khan said she had come to London with plans to visit a spa and have a meal to celebrate her birthday. She said she and her cousin had gone for a drive in the morning, "blasting music and chilling like cousins do".

Describing herself as being "devastated", she said the pain from the attack was "excruciating" and she had seen her clothes "burn away", adding that she feared she would "probably never look the same".

Ms Khan's friends wrote of the tragedy on her crowdfunding page: "Resham planned to go to a spa and restaurant with her mum for her 21st birthday. It was to be the first time they spent quality time together since Resham had studied abroad. "

The message continued: "Resham had not seen Jameel in 2 years, and was marking the occasion. This attack has caused them both to put their lives on hold. A university student in Manchester, Resham had not been back in the UK for longer than a week before the attack happened.

"She had spent the last 9 months on an exchange program in Cyprus. Resham was also due to start her new job on July 2nd which she can no longer do. Also she was called in for a job interview which she can no longer attend. Their life is currently on hold but we want them to see that this is temporary and things will get back to normal. Resham is usually a very confident young woman."

The funding page described her career plans: "She was preparing to open her own business over the summer, and had plans to model for Asian bridal, make up and hair artists. But now she feels as though her identity has been stolen from her, on her 21st birthday."

A friend who studied with the Miss Khan wrote: "I want to raise money for Resham and Jameel to provide them with additional support.

"Although they are currently in hospital, once discharged, we understand aftercare for them both physically and mentally is crucial. It wasn't right that she or her Jameel were attacked in such a vicious way. And although we have faith justice will be served once the criminal is caught, the scars Resham and Jameel will carry will last a life time."

Police have so far made no arrests and say enquiries are continuing.

But the key part is that police has not arrested that bastard attacker. Most of the traffic lights are under observation through cameras so why has the culprit not been identified yet?
Seems to be hate/racist related attack.

May Allah bless them with patience, guidance and a superfast recovery.

Don't know about cameras. Never heard of Brits throwing acid in hate attacks. Is it more likely to you that this was a random race-based attack or that the perp was a sexually frustrated fan or disagreeable family member, upset at her marriage plans?

May Allah bless them with patience, guidance and a superfast recovery.
Her career can never recover from injuries like this, can it?

Cameras have become quite essential especially after 9-11 but even before that they were used for monitoring the traffic and crime.
It could be a sexually repressed pervert but then why her only? there would be far more skimpily clad woman in the public...no?

If a relative did that, she would have known and told the police already. Everyone knows everyone in the family and enemities, friendships, and dissents are well known among the family members.

I was in a situation few days ago in UK where asked the police to check camera's on lights & the answer was they dont record anything untill they want camera's to record something or flash on number plates of missing cars etc. ,so i think it will be same here

Random attack? This is weird. Look like some white racist trowed acid to make a point.

What marriage plan? That is different Resham Khan.

Acid throwing in UK?
I thought this was a south asian phenomena.
Justice should be served to the person who committed this horrific crime.

So some random guy walks up and throws acid, where did he get the acid from?

Look at his stupid tattoos, thinks hes in the South American Cartel. And yeah it definitely looks like a racist attack.

PS: Scumbags who throw acid on people should be doused in Acid.
