ony is announcing good times ahead for PS4 fans. For starters, the Pro version of the console is getting a dedicated ‘Boost Mode’, which will allow it to make use of that extra oomph under the hood.

The Boost mode, when turned on, will allow even better performance on titles released before the PlayStation 4 Pro same to the market. However, unlike what you’d expect, the performance boost is not coming directly from the game developers.

Instead, Sony itself is allowing older titles to achieve more frame rates and faster loading times. Of course, as a result of that not all games are able to make use of the extra power in an equal manner so Sony is also giving you the option to turn it off if it affects the games adversely.

The solution is not that high tech, since the internals of both the original PS4 and the PS4 Pro are so similar. The update is coming with the PS4 update v4.50 beta release.

In another round of news, Sony is also releasing a patch allowing the installation of external hard drives in the same update. Technically, PS4 has supported external hard drives pretty much since its launch, but it never supported installation of games.

The most you could do was replace the internal hard drives, but with the arrival of the new update, gamers can plug in a USB 3.0 drive of up to 8 TB capacity. Gamers might soon be able to save their game data and use the portable driver to play games where they left of on someone else’s PC, but this latter feature still remains to be confirmed by Sony.

The feature has been seen in the likes of the Wii U for long, but that shouldn’t take away the fact that life will be a lot more convenient for PlayStation enthusiasts, now.
