Prevent India from getting Security Council seat

I respect your opinion, but the reality is that India is very likely going to get a permanent seat, perhaps within the next decade or so, due to other considerations that will overshadow Kashmir.

No way, Jose !!!

What 'price' are you alluding to ?

Cud u pls elaborate

he wanted to say he is dreaming.

India will not get its seat for free.

Firstly, all major western countries, as well as China and Japan, will want access to the vast Indian markets, as the buying power of the public increases steadily.

This will run straight into the issue of protectionism of domestic industries amd will create a political struggle that will not be eaily resolved.

The second major issue is going to be financial integration, and India will not easily give up total control over this, and settle for a major but not total control.

This third issue will be manpower. India will provide the majority of english speaking high tech workers as populations elsewhere age in the industrialized world, including China, but free movement and integration of these workers will also generate a tussle between national interest and multinational corporations.

Kashmir, important an issue as it is, will be no more than a footnote in all this saga.

Thanks for your inputs.

But I cannot see how any of these have anything to do with UNSC. Taking the last points 1st..

J&K Whenever India get a seat it shall be with J&K in its current form. If there are any toss ups, the seat can wait. No Govt in India can hope to survive the next morning the day it compromises on J&K.

English speaking population. Just coz India gets a seat on UNSC why should it have to provide English speaking ppl ? In any case we are doing well by outsourcing such processes to India. This has no relevance to a UNSC seat.

Opening of Indian Markets This is happening even now with or without a seat. Once again trade relations have nothing to do with political ones. China & USSR are permanent members till not very long ago they were not open to outsiders. In any case I feel competition is good. India will protect its traditional industries which account for providing employment to rural India.

Very good points given by you there

However in this the first one is already happening as the West and China are trying aggressively to move in, and some are succeeding too. The price to be paid if u mean is loss of indigenous industries i think it is inevitable. The current government's pro US policy is bound to bring in this even if we are not present in the exclusive group.

The political struggle is also bound to happen, as u see till now Indian Politics are still based on age old necessities of Roti, kapda and makaan as there are still people without these. As the markets open and opportunities galore wealth will be distributed , so the political people have to improvise from these campaign plans.

The third is already happening my friend if u see America closely.

I agree with u that the resulting mess will take time to solve and what with the Indian government's apathy to quick responses, it will be a lot of time indeed. But the trade off is not bad. This is my personal opinion.

Giving India permanent seat is tantamount to supporting a terrorist.

Due to Indian State terrorism in Kashmir, the region is a flash point for a nuclear war. In such a situation an irresponsible country like India does not deserve to be given a permanent seat

Hey Jana, Giving India a permanent Seat would do Wonders for the World, A developing Nation as Powerful As India is a Bliss for the developing worlds, A Shoulder for them to Rest, A Pole for them to catch ,an ear for them to ask and a Head for them to think.... India Getting Permanent Seat might be a Nightmare for a Few but that dosent Stop the others who want us to be there to vote

And they say's Indian cry

ur crying and nagging can possible delay it but u cant stop the inevitable,India will b part of U.N security council in ur own life time and u will live with it

Addin on to this....

Looking at the furore raised in the political circles and media ,after some non-existant comments on Balochistan at Sharm-El-Sheikh, any concessions on Kashmir in return for anything , the ruling party can kiss their chairs good-bye,dig their own graves and jump into it.

we got the non permanent seat now and we will get the permanent seat as well so no worries

India elected to U.N. Security Council

NEW DELHI: India was elected as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council on Tuesday with an overwhelming number of countries endorsing its sole candidature from the Asian group.

In polling for 10 seats that took place at the U.N. headquarters in New York, India received the highest number of votes — 187 out of 192 — among all countries in the fray.

“This resounding endorsement of India's candidature at the United Nations reaffirms the overwhelming support India enjoys in the international community,” External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna said at a late night press conference here soon after the results were known.

While thanking all the member states who supported India's candidature, Mr. Krishna said the country would have to live up to the responsibility entrusted by such a large number of countries. He also hoped India's objective approach would pave the way for its entry as a permanent member.

“India will demonstrate to the world that India is good for the world,” he added.

The new five non-permanent council members will replace Austria, Japan, Mexico, Turkey and Uganda on 31st Dec. The five members elected last year – Bosnia, Brazil, Gabon, Lebanon and Nigeria will remain on the council until the end of 2011.

WASHINGTON: India on Tuesday was formally and handily elected to a non-permanent seat of the United Nations Security Council for a two-year term, beginning January 2011. It secured 187 of the 191 votes.

But India’s election was a foregone conclusion, with the only other aspirant in the Asian grouping, Kazakhstan, having pulled out of the race in January, 2010, and with no other Asian nation throwing its hat into the ring subsequently.

The Indian diplomats, however, left nothing to chance and kept lobbying till about the very end. External Affairs Minister S M Krishna himself led the effort, meeting a large number of delegation heads during his recent visit for the UN General Assembly session.

With this victory, India will occupy the UNSC after a gap of 18 years.

It last held the non-permanent seat of the most powerful UN organ in 1992. Apart from India, countries elected from the other regions include Germany, South Africa and Colombia.

Canada and Portugal were vying for one remaining seat from the Western Europe and Others category, with the voting having spilled over to a second round.

Each non-permanent country has a two-year tenure, without a veto power. The five permanent members -- Britain, China, France, Russia and the United States -- alone have the right to veto any council resolution.

Interestingly, all three members of IBSA (India, Brazil and South Africa Forum) aspiring for permanent berths in an expanded UNSC, will all be together as non-permanent members. So is the case with three of the four G-4 nations (India, Brazil, Germany and Japan). Japan is set to complete its two-year non-permanent tenure in December. India will in fact succeed Japan in the council.

India can definitely get the permanent seat of UNSC because of other factors like Indo-US relations, growing economy, second largest population, 3rd largest army etc. At present there are several obstacles but these all will not able to prevent India to get permanent seat. What India need to do is that just improve its economy and influence on UNSC countries.

The fact is that only china, a permanent member of UNSC can create some problems but US, Japan and other countries may support Indian candidacy which is the positive point here.

Friend its better to improve your economy if you want to be a permanent member.

Hmm... give India the seat, and quit from the UN!

Sometimes it seems it feels odd there...

Just kidding
