“Pakistan’s friendship with China will push US closer to India”

Pakistan should be friend with very second Country but should not be dependent on anyone. Decades back USA was our best friend and now China. International relations is not about Friendship, It is about interests. We should think about our Interests. Enough of this dost-dost drama.

The U.S. has moved out of the low wage bauble manufacturing (which can be resource and pollution intensive) and into more expensive value-added industries. Defense exports are a tiny chunk of it ($26B)

Thats what I was saying earlier.... Thanks for endorsing the fact.

We can't influence Pakistan agreed, we shouldn't complain about Pakistan - again agreed. We can however work to prevent it from happening on the other end.

P.S. Supply limitation and oligopoly/duopoly in case of some defense goods is the reason why I am saying the above - had it been a free market with unconstrained supply I would have totally agreed with you.
It is a free market now, if you have the money and not in direct confrontation with the supplier.... India is case and point.

Why is it Pakistan can't have strong manufacturing exports? Is it because China and India have got things on lock down?

america was never really our friend. They needed a base near the soviet union. That became us. The americans never ever gave us anything of value or worth. The Chinese have given us more than any nation has given another nation. Because of China, we have become a nuclear weapons state. A nation that can manufacture military hardware like the JF-17. Given us access to high tech military equipment. This has stopped the uglies from the east invading us.

With nations its intrests that bring them closer or farther , In international politics its the game of Intrests & only Intrests .

Not in all cases. Sometimes race and religion are far more powerful than just "interests". The american relationship with England and israel will never be broken no matter what. No interests or economic incentives can break those bonds.

US were never close with Pakistan. They were using Pakistan and constant threats of siding with India used as a stick and now China brings equilibrium to the equation with their good heart and intentions.

Long live a prosperous and peaceful Pak-China relationship. US can cosy up to their war crime partners India.

Whats interesting to note is India can be friendly towards Israel and Iran and its ok. They can even be friendly with China and its ok. But Pakistan, building relations with a friendly neighbor. NO NO NO this is unacceptable. We live in strange times.

I guess people start having reservations about Pakistan's friendly relations with other countries because they see very little positive coming out of it. So far, Pakistan's good relations have been for:
- With US/CIA for supporting Mujahedeen in Afghanistan.
- With China and North Korea on WMD technology.
CPEC is the first time that Pakistan is cooperating with a foreign country for something that is not destabilizing in nature.

Exactly! Precisely! Only Pakistan's relationship with China means anything. All other relationships with other nations means nothing to Pakistan. Apart from China, no other nation has ever given Pakistan anything positive or of any substance.

Pushing towards this, friendship with that, enemies with them, it's all just international affairs. Pakistan and the US have love/hate relationship spanning 70 years. Pakistan has had ties with China just as long. Nothing will change.

That's just an excuse.
We n China are close to each other from decades and now India and US realise that they should work together hun. Infact India n US romance making Pakistan and Russia close to eachothers.
And that's the only way to maintain the balance

Well, it isnot that the Americans were never our friends. They did initially buy into our Punjabi/Lahori "large-hearted, earthy and hospitable" sales pitch. It complemented the American's self-image about themselves. Later they realized that apart from this delusional self-image, there is very little mutual interest involved in our relationship. For that, I guess our insistence on not adhering to the norms of internationally acceptable behaviour may be to blame. So after that point, Pak-US relationship became one of case-by-case assessment of shared/conflicting interests.
