Pakistani Student Attacked In India

Hope the student recovers soon and perps are brought to justice....

All those claiming a case of mistaken identity are deluded. A Pakistani attending an Indian University is news that everyone at the school would be aware of. Also the comment about attacking someone while they are sleeping is missing the entire point. Why does it matter if the chap is sleeping or jumping around? He got beaten up for being a Pakistani, its that simple.

You make it sound as if he was attacked for being a pakistani, yes i would have taken that argument if he was beaten repetadly.

He was not in India for a day,he finsihed his studies,if you have been to college i am sure you would have had you own group of friends you would have had your own rivalries.

He was attacked just before he was to leave for good .what does that tell you ,wontt you think there was some kind of old rivalry which makes more sense than the regular,he was attached because he is a Pakistani.

He got what he deserved. Being in India for a Pakistani is like swimming in a pond full of alligators.

Well what could he have done..., maybe there were no ponds to swim in Pakistan.....!!

Indian police are interrogating students and security personnel in relation to a violent attack on Ali Hasan Raza — a Pakistani student at Pondicherry University, according to Indian media.

Cases have also been registered under various Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections including 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint) and 448 (punishment for house trespass), according to police.

According to some reports, police believe the attack may have been the result of mistaken identity.

"We suspect that the attackers might have mistaken him for someone," investigating officer and sub-inspector V Sivakumar said.

The police said most students had vacated the hostel as their exams were over. They however added that the attack was likely carried out by those who stayed on in the hostel.

In a phone conversation with The New Indian Express, Raza said that the Indian Home Ministry had permitted him to return to his home country, adding that he was being escorted by the Pondicherry police personnel.

He also said that he would be willing to return to India in case his presence was required by the investigating team to cooperate in the probe of the assault against him.

Leftist parties send memo to Indian President

Leaders of Indian left-wing parties in a memorandum urged President Pranab Mukherji to take action against the assault of the Pakistani student at Pondicherry University. They said that the incident could have serious repercussions on Pakistan-India bilateral relations, as well as on the regional and international politics.

Furthermore, they said the attack may give rise to speculations that the incident was due to communal and nationalist motivations. The attack occurred on the last day of the ongoing Lok Sabha polls that the Bharatiya Janata Party-led (BJP) National Democratic Alliance (NDA) are expected to win.

The memorandum was signed by office bearers of the Communist Party of India (CPI), Communist Party of India – Marxist (CPM), All India Forward Bloc (AIFB) and Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP).
