ISLAMABAD (APP): Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal has welcomed Afghanistan’s interest to become part of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Talking to Voice of America (VOA) on Monday, he said that Afghanistan has expressed its interest through its diplomat in Pakistan.

Minister said earlier Saudi Arabia and Iran have also expressed their interest in CPEC.

He said the original purpose of CPEC is to establish regional connectivity and trade bridge in the region.

He expressed his hope that regional trade through CPEC would strengthen peace in the region.

To a question, Ahsan Iqbal said that CPEC is most discussed and most debatable project of Pakistan while no agreement is hidden in this regard.

He said CPEC would be the game changer for backward areas of Balochistan and KP.

Adding Afghanistan into CPEC is suicidal for it, because they are Indian proxy country, they are preparing to stop Pakistan water with help of India and also doing everything which could hurt Pakistan.

They will hv no option other then to use gawader instead of chahbar then they are welcome

Afghanistan has nothing to offer as they simply cannot afford to invest in Pakistan. They only want to join for their own benefit and I really find nothing wrong in it if they are able to improve the life of our brothers n their sisters in Afghanistan.

The only thing we really need is, stop biting us at every opportunity possible and stop acting like puppets of India and USA. They need to learn to coexist and I am sure a colloborative Afghanistan will be in the best interest of both Pakistan and Afghanistan

I think from Pakistani PoV it would have the benefit that Afghanistan will think twice before offering India any space for more "cultural centers" to export terrorism for sabotage activities against CPEC.

Not at this point in time. Keep them at arms length. Build CPEC first, make it function, then assess the situation in Afghanistan. At this point, it maybe an attempt to sabotage it from Afghan side and India so close to Kabul regime, its not worth taking risk with such a vital project. Our bilateral issues aside, when Kabul regime is dancing on the tunes of India, as seen from their SAARC summit refusal to attend, it doesn't make sense for Pakistan to get Afghanistan onboard.

IMHO, if CPEC is leveraged properly, it's indeed a game changer. Now, the Paks need to directly talk to the US folks putting the options on the table. It should be a very very tough bargain if the US folks really want a closure...

Ok here is the deal for Afghans.
1st Sell us Wakhan area.
2nd Accept Durand Line.
3rd You will pay same tariff rate what you are charging us .

In return
We will construct the CPEC link till Afghan border. Roads are already there but will be improved. Industrial zone near border for your export under our supervision. There you go if you like it, you are welcome.

"Keep your friends close, but enemies closer" (a line from The Godfather). Who knows Afgan folks might be leveraging India to get access to CPEC and the Chinese investments. Even BD government has managed humongous Chinese investments - you too Brutus???

Thumbs up!! That's what I call negotiation - it's an art....

Absolutely NOT. Got a bad feeling about letting them having access to CPEC. They are an indian proxy after all. We have done FAR too much for Afghanistan and it's people and received nothing back but ingratitude.

China needs to neutralise American hold specially on global economy, for it to be the real mover and shaker in geopolitics. CPEC is their first practical step towards that end. Yanks have openly said that they are concerned about CPEC as they are not sure about Chinese intentions. If Iran and Saudi start to export their oil and gas towards China via CPEC, diverting their energy exports to China from American led west, and worst, start dealing in their own regional currencies, that will be the death of petro dollar and we all know what mean. Saddam and Qaddafi paid with their lives when they tried the same thing. Tbh it's American own extra smartness which has lead to present situation. Pakistan told them not to let India in Afghanistan after the events of 9/11 but they didn't paid head , infact later it became obvious what was the game plan. 50000 Pakistanis losing their lives in wave of terrorism (fourth generation warfare ) shock us quite badly. We know what China grand plans are but we care less. Those 50k lives lost haunt us and vengeance is the order of the day. Someone, somewhere has to pay. One of our senator declared America as a power in decline while on American soil recently, ex MI6 cheif declared that era of Pax Americana is over. Neither America is in position to give us anything or we can offer them anything. If Afghanistan is the graveyard of empires, we are it's undertakers.
