The ‘freedom struggle in occupied Kashmir’ is fast reaching its objective and it is time Pakistan intervenes more forcefully and initiates a global diplomatic and media campaign to expose the Indian ‘barbarity and oppression’, a Pakistani newspaper said Sunday.

‘The freedom movement in occupied Kashmir has reached its final stage. It is time Pakistan helps the oppressed Kashmiri people with diplomatic and moral support as well as guidance. Kashmir is the ‘shah-e-rag’ (jugular vein) of Pakistan and it is the time and it is liberated,’ an editorial in the Nawa-i-Waqt said.

It said while Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi had made some ‘stuttering’ and ‘half-hearted’ statements in support of the Kashmiri people, these were ‘not enough’ and in light of the current happenings in the Kashmir Valley where over 100 people had been killed in the last three months. ‘The need of the hour is to speak out forcefully.’

‘And not only the foreign minister, the salaried employees of the foreign ministry should be forthcoming on the issue. The president and the prime minister must also speak out in support of the Kashmiris and not only in the country and Kashmir but also globally. High commissioners and ambassadors must also be tasked with briefing the international media with the true state of affairs,’ the editorial said.

It said full use must be made of platforms such as the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC). ‘The OIC secretary general made a general statement of support for the Kashmiri people but it was weak and did not have much effect.’

The editorial also attacked the chairman of the Pakistani National Assembly’s Kashmir Committee Maulana Fazlur Rehman, wondering what had happened to make him neglect the sufferings of the Kashmiris. Without naming him, it said if he did not feel anything untoward was happening, he should be replaced with someone more in tune with the aspirations of the Kashmiri and the Pakistani people.

Pakistan needn't even bother doing anything, other than what it does do already. Continue moral, diplomatic and other needed support to ALL Kashmiri peoples.

What we can do is order each of our diplomatic missions to release pamphlets and hold events regarding Kashmir; providing awareness and shedding light on the conflict (as well as the barbaric actions of the security forces of the increasingly troublesome neighbour country) can help inform the uninformed.

The OIC is useless. It can't do anything purposeful for Palestine, what hope that it can do anything for Kashmir?

There is no appetite on the world stage to get involved, and they won't. If our politicians, and our people are disinterested, then what can you expect the international community to do?

Has been discussed to death, and this should be closed by mods (or at least moved to the Kashmir War sub-forum).

Keeping aside my Indian POV, the approach you highlighted above wont work. Because of 2 reasons

1. Can be easily countered by a similar Indian action. And at least today, India has a stronger diplomatic clout in the world.

2. To do this effectively, Paksitan will have to go into the next level of detail around its stand. At that time, the elephant in the room will be whether Pakistan is ready to commit to the International community about its stand on Independence for Kashmir. Blogs and forums aside, Pakistan has been side stepping this in formal dialogs. Such a diplomatic offensive as highlighted by you above will not work without clearing Pakistan's stand on this issue.

in the interests of debate, I would strongly encourage hindustan to do so. But from a moral perspective, hindustan is not looking so good. Even some israeli 'spectators' have surprisingly come out and criticized the disastrous handling of the Kashmir issue by the hindustanys.

true and verifiable information --perhaps aided with guest speakers from occupied and Azad Kashmir --would add a great and effective result. The idea is to inform.

our stance is more in line with the international communities. We view Kashmir in its entirety as disputed territory. It is treated thusly.

We will push for a referendum when the time comes.

(dont bother, I know what your reply will be to this ;))

our stand on the issue is crystal clear

Pakistani missions really should take notice and use this time to inform the hosts and fellow diplomatic missions about the atrocities being waged and the importance for effective action to take place.

the indians should be invited to these events too so they can give their side of the story; knowing them, they would rather decline the invite than face the challenge. That's my personal feeling however.

How can Pakistan pressurize India?

you can continue your moral support.we have no problem.and regarding pamphlets to the diplomats :lol:,world is already busy in iran and war on terror.they dont need pamps.so dont confuse them.

Your post actually highlighted my point. You have side stepped the key question in the same manner as Pakistan has been till date. ;)

No wonder the international community does not buy the Pakistani fable..

It would be interesting to know what Pak can do which it has already not done.

Also one needs to take note of the consequences..

India prepared to discuss all issues with Pak: Nirupama Rao | Pakistan | News | Newspaper | Daily | English | Online

India is prepared to discuss all outstanding issues with Pakistan, including the issue of Jammu and Kashmir, to ensure stability in the South Asian region, Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao said in an interview to Indian news agency. "The issue of Jammu & Kashmir comes up in our relationship with Pakistan and we've said very clearly that we are prepared to discuss all outstanding issues with Pakistan," Rao said. Rao added that India wants to "persevere in our dialogue with Pakistan. It is not about segmenting this dialogue or taking away the complicated issues from it saying we are not ready to discuss it. We want to discuss all the outstanding issues and that will also include the issue of Jammu and Kashmir."

Simply because like Pakistan, you yourself are side stepping the issue of whether Pakistan will commit itself to an independent Kashmir instead of Kashmir as a part of Pakistan
