Featured Pakistan Navy Type 054AP Frigates - Update, News & Discussion

Question. Is this in the same league as Type 054??
it seems better with better payload of SSM ,,, is it turkish I-class frigate

Currently, Pakistan only wants to buy 4 type 054AP?
These 4 type 54ap with f22p, babur class corvettes, and OPVs once upgraded forms a good defense arc of 16 modern sea going ships.

I fail to see the reason why an AESA radar is deployed on these vessels. In addition to a long range air search radar(Type 517, VHF set) this system offers no real advantage here. Such active array radars on modern warships are usually needed for guiding medium-to-long range SAMs to their targets. But the LY-80 here is not guided by this radar. Except for the sake of redundancy it means little for the ship. Instead PN could have done better by adding a single modern AESA system (e.g S1850M/SMART-L) for air surveillance.
Hi,

Aesa radar is the baseline radar for any equipment being put into service these days---regardless of anyone for or against the system---. Aesa is the minimum threshold---.

First rule of procuring a major weapons system is to own it---have it in your possession ( remember the sanctions ). Once you have it---then it is upto you what to do with it---.

Get out of these theoretical calculations based on idealistic assumptions.

Facts are:

A subsonic "moderately capable" Neptune missile can penetrate multi layer defense shield of a flagship cruiser.

And Kinzhal, with in inflight maneuverability and launch flexibility, can be intercepted at hypersonic speeds.

You people only discuss the final phase of kill chain and ignore the 90% initial non-kinetic phases.
Hi
at the moment only 4 rest of the attraction is 8 submarines
may be few years more and we can see 052E in PN too
coz after the 8 submarines next order in line will be J31/35 kind of fighter
thank you
Maybe they have surprises you don’t know about😉

Im not sure you can claim that it has a better payload than Type 054A/P. The turks will likely use Atmaca which is the same class as. C-802A/C-803 which we know the type 054A usually holds 8 as well. The 054P uses CM-302 which is a much larger missile with more speed and range and this is likely why there are only 4 (not sure if they could hold 6-8 total and PN just doesn't have the funds to do it or their is a weight limitation).

The AESA you are referring to is the SR2410C?
This replaces the Type 382. The benefits of this is that the AESA are far more resilient against electronic warfare and can be used for detection, tracking, and a redundancy guide weaponry to target. Yes the SR2410C can act as the fire control to provide weapons guidance in the event that the there is damage or jamming to the type 344 or MR-90 radars.

Compared with the Type 382 radar, the overall performance of the SR2410C is better. Although the SR2410C has no difference in the detection range, its information processing capabilities and multi-target tracking capabilities have been improved over 382

as of now its just a concept while Type-054A/P is an operational ship, which is the workhorse of Chinese Navy & would play a bigger role in PN as well.

So at this stage comparison between the two is not logical

No chance. This AESA radar cannot support LY-80. For that there're CW illuminators like MR-90. Once its kaput, LY-80 is on its own. AESA here is just for air search role, no weapons guidance.

KARACHI- The third, Type 054-Alpha ship built in China for Pakistan Navy arrived in Karachi on Friday afternoon.

Type 054-Alpha ship built in China for Pakistan Navy arrives in Karachi

The ship, PNS Shahjahan reached Karachi port where it was given a warm welcome. Commander Pakistan Fleet Rear Admiral Faisal Abbasi took round of the ship and congratulated the crew on its commissioning.

Earlier, the ship also visited Sri Lanka's Colombo port where it also participated in a joint maritime exercise with the Sri Lankan Navy ships.

The Commanding Officer of the ship met with senior civil and military officials of Sri Lanka and discussed professional matters.

PNS Shahjahan is a multi-purpose ship equipped with advanced weapons and sensors.

According to Spokesperson of Pakistan Navy, inclusion of PNS Shahjahan in Pakistan Navy fleet will further strengthen the defense of country's maritime borders and interests.

I dont think that is accurate. Firstly there are 4 MR-90 for primary guidance of the LY-80s not just 1. Secondly the SR2410C is a multimode radar and isnt just air search. It can do air search out to 250km but is also capable of surface tracking and is capable of tracking 150 air and surface targets (far more than on the standard radars of the 054A) and from my understanding it can do target illumination much like Smart S Mk2.

The ship has primary air and surface search radars Sur17 and MR36 respectively. These have longer range and cover a greater area quickly compared to the SR2410C BUT the tracking speed and fidelity of the track is far greater with the SR2410C. Basically, my understanding is there longer range radars act as early warning systems (as will AWECs and MPAs) directing the SR2410C as to where to point the spotlight, and once the SR2410C has the target it can maintain tracking more effectively than conventional radars AND has the ability if needed to use its multiple T/R Modules to also perform taget illumination if necessary.

It looks like the combo of these radars is meant to quickly find and track and fast moving weapons like Brahmos and counter them to the best of the LY-80N's ability.

@Bilal Khan (Quwa) do i have this right?

Istanbul class has less VLS Systems than Type 54 A but more Anti Ship missiles. It's close to Type 54 A but not fully.
You need to compare the missile. 8 x100KM subsonic missiles vs. 4 x 250km Supersonic missiles. I will choose the later in any time..

Where is Tipu Sultan folks
must have arrived Karachi, it concluded it's visit in Sri Lanka on 23 june probably. although there must be some news on arrival or may be visiting some gulf countries, Oman etc.
