Pakistan Launches Final Drive on Taliban Bastion

define defeat first. NWA is free of civilians that means anyone who is not wearing uniform is an enemy and is fired upon. artillery is not for precision engagement, it just flattens whole villages so pak is fighting pretty much a conventional war against a much poorly equipped enemy and yet the area is not clear.

you clearly do not get it.
This is a threatre, which we are not 100% able to fight off
it takes time, for us to process the information we learn from the current events and develop counter measures on it.
At the moment, you could say we're throwing our soldiers as cannonfodder. But no, Whatever we learn here will stop another insurgency in future.

As the other guy said.
army will come, do the job you tell them to do.
Then follows the civilian govts job which, they always fail to provide.

Please raise your concerns to the govt and let them know how pathetic they are.

Personally speaking, I believe we've done much better in our region compared to the US in afghanistan, without the expensive tech.

Present Arms, May Allah bless him and his family.

This will be by far the toughest battle of the Operation. The terrain favors the enemy, artillery/heli support is going to be very limited. We are going to be forced to fight like our Fore-Fathers did, HAND TO HAND. Every valley, every ridge, every stream, every inch of land will be roughly contested and fiercely fought for. I have every reason to believe our superior training, discipline and motivation will result in our success. But i cannot deny the fact that our enemy is also very motivated, well armed and deeply financed with deep pockets to buy very impressive weapon and communication gear. Employing area dominance weapons is going to be severely tough, lets see what our Commanders have planned for this.

God Bless

Martyr never dies and indeed we in-debt though the sacrifices will not go in vain. The final drive is the toughest just because of valley and terrain but we do believe upon the Commanders, brave Army and their training. ALLAH may keep them and us all safe and may help to win this war. Aameen. RIP brother. Respect and salute.

We will hunt them down till the last of them and these sacrifices will raise our moral more than before.

Pakistan Zindabad

Just carpet bomb the entire Afghan border mating Pakistan and enforce a DMZ inside Afghanistan!

Not first but First five casualties. It seems a first of many major fights

SHAWAL: At least 19 militants and five troops, including Captain Umair Abbasi, were killed in a clash in North Waziristan bordering Pak-Afghan region on Saturday, ISPR said.

In a press statement, ISPR said that ground forces surrounded a group of fleeing terrorists in area Mangroti near Pak-Afghan border in Shawal.

“Intense exchange of fire took place. As a result, 19 terrorists were killed and several were injured,” it said.

According to the ISPR, four security forces personnel including Captain Umair Abbasi also embraced shahadat (martyrdom) in exchange of fire.

Defeat is self-defining.

Militants are known to use hostages (even their own families), whom probably didn't get a chance to run, so the military still has to be careful.

But let's say you're right. Your way of fighting is something Pakistan cannot afford. When fighting an insurgency, or any war to gain territory, you want to leave civilian infrastructure in tact. Why? Because if you destroy everything, where are the people under you going to live? So you'll end up having to rebuild the entire area, and with Pakistan's current finances? Not possible.

Pakistan cannot afford a scorched earth doctrine of fighting, that's why F-16s and drones are being used as precision weapons, instead of carpet bombers.

The enemy is not conventional, they leave traps, they hit and then they run, they'll never fight face to face. Your assumptions are basically wrong.

What a coincidence!! Turkish forces are clearing PKK scums house by house in Sur district of Diyarbakir. It's a very historical place with hundreds of years old structures like mosques, churches etc. InshaAllah both armies will be successful in their missions. One thing I have noticed - casualties of officers in the Pak army is quite high, whereas in the Turkish army it is the NCOs who dominate the number of Shahids.

Pakistani officers lead in the battle field to increase the morales of the soldiers. This is the reason our army is now facing a shortage of officers due to which we are increasing the number of people joining the army.

“It would be unwise to try to forecast how long it will take to defeat them or drive them out."

The problems the PA would face are:

1. For how long is the PA going to hold ground captured from the militants? If they withdraw, the TTP will be back sooner than later. And that's going to be an unending drain on manpower and resources. Handing these areas over to the police/FC will not be a viable proposition as they aren't trained and equipped for COIN ops.

2. The TTP have probably already withdrawn most of their forces into areas bordering Afghanistan by now only to be back at a time of their choosing. Seeing the terrain it will be near impossible for the PA to block them from withdrawing into Afghanistan.
