Overhauled aero engine unveiled
The 200th TV-3 117 MT aero engine was released on Wednesday at 3 BRD, Air Force after an overhaul. Air Marshal PV Athawale, AOC-in-C, Maintenance Command, handed over the logbook of this aero engine during a ceremonial function to Wing Commander Felix Pinto, Flight Commander 118 Helicopter Unit of the Indian Air Force. Air Cmde Ravinder Sharma, AOC, 3 BRD lauded the efforts during his inaugural address. Air Marshal Athawale while speaking on the occasion appreciated the efforts of the technicians on achieving the milestone.
The AOC-in-C also appreciated the high degree of commitment of the workers and emphasized that the depot must move towards self reliance. He exhorted all the air warriors to put in their best and enhance productivity keeping quality in mind for achieving highest flight safety record.
Air Commodore Kuldeep Sharma, Deputy Air Officer, Engineering Support along with representatives from agencies like Integrated Financial Advisor (IFA) and Regional Centre for Military Airworthiness (RCMA) attended the function.
TV-3 117 MT is the power plant for the MI-17 Helicopter. The aero engine is one of the finest technological designs having a variable stator for the first four stages of compressor and compression ratio of 9.5 which is the highest achievable in its class.The engine is capable of operating upto 5 km height.
In India, 3 BRD Chandigarh is the only overhaul agency wherein the TV-3 overhaul line was established in 2001. Despite severe constraints in spare procurement from overseas, the depot is committed to develop reclamation technology with highest quality so as to continue with the production of aero engine to support the operations at the field units.
