No sale of firecrackers in Delhi-NCR, says Supreme Court

not right. infect if anything sc should allow fire crackers by govt at one particular place where whole city can watch.
its our national fest and even muslim sikh Christians enjoy it.

its a day we celebrate for triumph of good over evil. not any religious reason. this has a symbolic meaning to our way of life.

Saala hindu ab marr bhi nahi sakte

oh the poor hindus... :(
i wish delhi govt banned it instead of SC... the pollution is horrible in delhi especially in winter.

Hope they are talking about not using wood ,Most Hindus in metropolitan cities use cremation furnace after the religious formalities.

Maybe its more eco friendly

How about cremation for everyone?

As a delhite, I support this ban. Last year, the sun was blocked out for days after Diwali. And I was running around with an irritated throat- doesn't happen at any other time of the year.
Going to haryana for fireworks this year.

Wonder if we can use the research to ban Beef, which clearly is causing more harm to planet than any other single issue.

Too much meat maybe an issue. But no need to completely ban it.

Not meat.
Beef is the issue. It's a bigger issue than anything else right now on the planet in terms of pollution.
Beef is consumed everyday but hey, let's target crackers burnt by Hindus for one day of the year.

And more importantly, let's not talk about the environment disaster Beef is causing. Let's pretend it does not exist since it is sensitive to certain community.

Oh yeah, let's cut some calf and parade the head, to promote Beef.

Beef is an issue at high levels of consumption, directly related to high population levels , which needs more meat(beef is one of the commonest meat consumed in the world).
Reduced consumption may work. People can't stop eating for global warming though.
One correction- you are confusing a global warming factor with an air pollution factor. The effects of air pollution are immediate.
Btw, it is mainly the Hindus who want the ban on fireworks.

Pollution from Beef also impacts air pollution among other things.
Point here is NOT taking a holistic approach and have a knee jerk reaction to an issue by banning fireworks.

If the court had taken a holistic approach, then, we wouldn't be having this discussion.

When these issues are cropped up when ever Hindu festivals are around the corner, it raises the issue of bias.

An institution CANNOT address pollution as a knee jerk reaction buddy. That is unscientific and by it's inherent bias smacks of anti-Hindu.

Yes, Hindus want to change but the option must be left to us.

If you want pollution to decrease in India, there are thousand things that are worse than bursting crackers.

Just the other day some guy was cribbing on tanneries being targeted for pollution, even though they pollute our water each and every second. Yet, they are OK for banning a practise when it's a Hindu festival that too for one day.

What's the problem if hindus want to reform faster than the others?

If Hindus want to reform, I welcome it.
In fact we have been running programs that tell why crackers are bad.

point is, we are doing and we will get there. It's SC banning only Hindu practises this while closing eyes to ALL the others which is not sitting right.
