Kerala fountainhead of Islamist terror: NIA

God’s Own Country is the fountainhead of most of the Islamist terror operations in the country, according to the NIA. Several Islamist organisations like outlawed Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) were operating in Kerala in bogus names, observed the investigating agency’s South Zone Coordination conference in Thiruvananthapuram the other day.

Religious extremism has spread its roots in Kerala through hawala networks and its presence is strong in northern Kerala districts such as Kasaragod, Kannur, Kozhikode and Malappuram, says the agency. The meeting also observed that there were indications that roots of extremism could have penetrated into the State’s police force.

Several disturbing developments like the leakage of classified information pertaining to e-mail surveillance by the Intelligence wing from the Police Headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram in January last indicated that the extremist network was strongly present in Kerala, the meeting observed. Investigations found that a Sub-Inspector of police was responsible for the leakage.

The extremists’ strategy was to plan their operations in Kerala for implementing elsewhere in the country. They were reluctant to operate directly in Kerala mainly because of the strong presence of the watchful media but an explosion in extremist operations in the State in not-so-distant future could not be ruled out, officials said in the NIA conference.

The agency is of the opinion that the information leakage from the Police Headquarters to a media organisation run by an outfit with alleged Islamist postures in the email surveillance scandal was the result of a conspiracy with international connections. The incident is being seen as an attempt to establish the foundations of extremism in Kerala society by using the media

An officer facing NIA probe was present in that meeting ...

even underworld people are employed by agencies to spy and gather intelligence on groups marked out.so nothing surprising if tainted NIA officer was present at the meeting.

Goes to show ,no amount of Literacy or HDI improvements can get Islamists to become a part of this day and age.

We need to end this once and for all. All religious institutions and structure need to come into the ambit oof 24/7 e-surveillance.
i know it to be true in some cases, but still a lot of room for improvement

NIA is a joke it cant even able to solve even a single bombing case.Or is it being employed like CBI in political goose chase.
