Does Chinese AIP use fuel cell technology?
China AIP submarine like 039B, using Stirling Engine,SEAIP. AIP tech imported from Germany in 1990s (Another said from France). But didn't know whether China have developed the FCAIP (Fuel Cell AIP).

A very old China SEAIP system pic, not latest (Of course official won't release it for public)

It's said (rumors) ... PLAN's
039A AIP sub ==> CCDAIP (China 1st-gen AIP tech)
039B AIP sub ==> SEAIP (Current China AIP tech)

Today Chinese mainly build 039B submarines. At least we can confirmed China Navy's sub using Stirling Engine AIP technology. China SEAIP engine (prototype) pic::china::tup:

So can someone help me understand the difference between the old Type 39 ( Nato name Song Class ) and Type 39B and Type 41 ( Nato name Yuan Class ) which also AIP Equipped.

Which one is more advanced - Type 39 B or Type 41 and which one is now Yuan Class ?

Also Russian Kilos were 4000 tons fully submerged.

How about Type 39B and Type 41, I mean how many tons fully submerged ?

There is no such thing as 041. It's a misreport on NATO's part. Yuan is actually 039A, while Song is 039. The new boat should be 039B, while 039C is being designed at the moment. You won't see 041 for at least 10 years.

Nope, China doesn't use "G" designation as official variants. It use A, B, or C.

Type 99G was actually Type 99A
039 was Song class, while 039A was Yuan

Sometimes, the 'G' means 'Gai / 改' ... Chinese PinYin.

It could be, but in most cases it's wrongly attributed by the internet. The only known G designation was used on nuclear submarines.

G, initial for "GAI" 改meaning Modify, is normally used after initials such as the A, B, C etc. Best example is looking at the 053 series PLAN Frigates and the 051 series destroyers. First batch 053 is known as 053H, then followed by 053H1, 053H2 and 053H3. When a new ship is built based on upgrade of a 053H1, it will be designated 053H1G。

Back to submarine, 039 Song has 2 versions, first few ones are with a step sail, later versions have the sails we normally see, and supposed to be 039G. 039A is Yuan class, thus if changes are made on original Yuan, it should be known as 039AG instead of 039B or 039C.

039B will be a different class of SSK from the Yuan class.

039B, 039C and 041 are all created by netizens, they are not official PLAN designation for current SSKs in service..

There is no such designation as 041 or any type 04X conventional submarines, all coventioal submarines (SSK) are designated 03X. And all nuclear submarines are designated 09X. Type 032 is the sole unit testbed submarine normally and wrongly termed as type 041.
