17 new R & D projects from SSB


The contract signatures of 17 R & D projects initiated by the Presidency of Defense Industry were completed with a ceremony held in SSB. R & D Signature Ceremony of the SSB President. Dr. İsmail Demir, Ministry of National Defense, Turkish Armed Forces, Gendarmerie General Command, universities, research centers, representatives of public and private sectors attended.

Within the scope of 2023 targets, our country has 1.8% R & D intensity target. In order to initiate R & D projects with a more dynamic process in line with this objective, "SSB R & D Panel" is defined in our legislation.

SSB R & D Panel held its first meeting on December 22, 2016 and decided to initiate 29 projects in 5 panels so far and to make wide area calls (SAGA) in 16 areas.

In this context, the following projects were signed on 13 January 2020:

Artificial Intelligence Assisted Fire Control and Autonomous Driving for Land Vehicles (Karagöz)
Global Positioning System Independent Autonomous Navigation System Development (Kerkes)

Contracts of their projects will be signed.

In these projects, the model of the contractor was established based on SME-Industry-University cooperation and 21 contractors or sub-contractors, especially our universities, institutes and SMEs, were included.

Within the scope of the ALUMINA Project, domestic and national Alumina powder will be developed for ballistic requirements equivalent to Alumina powders currently supplied from abroad in order to eliminate the dependence of our country on foreign countries to a great extent. Again in order to eliminate the dependence on abroad, the KARTAL project aims to develop glass fiber and carbon fiber reinforced prepreg and slit tape materials that are impregnated with epoxy resins subject to export license.

On the other hand, the development of the aluminum block casting and manufacturing processes of TEI-PD170 piston engine used in unmanned aerial vehicles with ASLAN Project has been cured at 120 ° C reinforced with nano additives providing improved weight, toughness and impact resistance properties of the material it is integrated within the ATLAS Project. Within the scope of the BORKAR Project, it is aimed to develop process conditions for the production of low density, cost effective and high ballistic performance Boron Carbide - Silicon Carbide composite armors for use in armor applications.

By integrating the methods to be developed within the scope of the GENIUS Project into the simulators, the creation of the infrastructure that can provide an advantage in the design of next generation human-machine interfaces with the knowledge, experience and technology infrastructure that will enable the development of new generation of user-centered flight simulators based on neurophysiology; Within the scope of HAMLE Project, it is aimed to develop Artificial Intelligence Commander Assistant who can learn war games, play educational role and provide decision support by determining and evaluating movement style.

In addition, with the Vision Project, developing algorithms for the detection, classification and identification of surface sensors from SAR sensors with artificial intelligence; Within the scope of KARAGÖZ Project, it is aimed to provide artificial intelligence supported fire control and autonomous driving capabilities to land vehicles.

KERKES Project is aimed to provide image-supported autonomous navigation capability to UAV Platforms in combat environments where GPS information is not available or where GPS is confused / deceived; PERGEL Project will be conducted for high performance algorithms with deep learning methods on open source data.

The DATA HOUSING Platform aims to obtain the tagged data sets needed in the projects involving artificial intelligence by mass sourcing, and with the ROBOTİM Project, artificial intelligence supported cognitive herd ability for the co-ordinated task execution of UAVs and ICAs.
