New corrupt airport needs 95b from 37 billion and delayed until 2016

New Islamabad Airport to be completed by 2016

Initial cost was 37b, then 66b and now 95b. Looks like every gov't wants a piece of mega corruption. Also they still haven't made progress on corruption prone road to airport. Who the hell needs a new road when there exists one already? Answer: People owning the land.

In 2016 they'll say it's delayed again or more money needed.

Also whoever thought of making emergency runway instead of two runways needs to be hanged. That's just pure corruption there. Dubai airport, so busy, does not have emergency runwau. I can't think of any popular airport with emergency runway. They all have 2 or 3 runways and if situation arises, just use other runway! Now the emergency runway will just stand idle (maybe one emergency a year?) while the people who sold land will laugh.

mega project khaba hi khaba, like most dams that are being built for last 30 years this islo airport wont see the light of day, my guess
 
Karachi Airport:

In 1992 PML-N constructed Karachi's airport at a cost of $100 million. It was never delayed and 15 gates were built. At the time it was considered most modern airport in South Asia. The planning was done so great that that it has the potential to be expanded up to 30 gates in the future. Despite construction of Lahore and Islamabad airport decades later, Karachi remains Pakistan's biggest and most sucessful airport.

Lahore Airport:

In 1999 PML-N approved construction of Lahore airport in Kala Shah Kaku. But owing to pressure from Army the location had to be moved near Cantt. When Musharraf took over he built Askari Housing, Defence Housing and other Housing Schemes owned by the Army in 2003. He built the airport in such a way that it was literally in the urban city and terminal size had to be reduced to 5 gates. Reality of the story is there was intention to please a particular group, there was massive corruption and there was no future planning, If one visits the airport today it looks as if you are in some hospital.

New Islamabad Airport:

Building a new airport in Islamabad was first conceived in 1985. By 2007 it was finally approved by Musharraf. It still doesn't mean it was a good project as same past mistakes were repeated. Before construction he announced construction of Housing Schemes owned by the Army on airport land.

The construction began in 2008 when PPP came to power, however due to corruption, cost escalated above $300 million and terminal size again like Lahore had to be reduced from 25 gates to 9 gates. Corruption and negligence continued until 2013 and the airport was esimated to cost $700 million. It was also renamed from Gandhara International to a Benazir International.

By the time PML-N took power, they inherited a situation in which the cost had escalated at its peek. Although this was not their project, in one year of governance construction is beng done so fast of this crap airport that it wasn't done across the period of 6 years. If cost has escalated again well then it seems someone in civil aviation authority was also present in PPP regime.

Just came back after visiting a cuz of mine involved in the project.... There is no main road to connect the airport to Islamabad or pindi (except for the shitty roads from the villages or an FWO road tht leads from the motorway n not open for general public)...

Civil aviation is corrupt to the core ... And so on... Even small things like pipes n tiles are being outsourced from either china or from thei favourite companies... And so on... According to my cuz... It would take like 5 years for the airport to be operational if they keep workin at the speed they are as of right now ... And believe me CAA would love to screw n stretch the deadline as long as in can.. Massive fukin kickbacks b corruption..

Have to agree Lahore airport inner layout is pathetic as if we are in some psych ward

U R right. there is still a lot of money to be made from the new airport and they will delay it as much as possible to mind it.
