New Anti Ship Cruise Missile Taimoor

Read II is subsonic in the same range. Subsonics are generally harder to detect on radar compared to supersonic
Terrain hugging and low thermal signature. Else, shape and material determine the radar signature. Speed doesn't.

For a range assumed 500 to 600kms it must be super sonic otherwise it be be counter measured easily.
Nope. If there is some early warning, then yes, easily counter measured. In terminal phase, also it is easy to detect and engage a sub-sonic missile but the reaction time is low and a CM manoeuvre can delay the firing solution or altogether avoid till impact.

Speed helps dictate the 2 factors above.

Only Speed cannot help in it.

Its a trade-off actually. That's why better to have both kind of missiles in your inventory.

The supersonic missiles are designed to beat ship's air defenses with sheer speed. But it tends to be detected far earlier.

The subsonic missiles are designed to remain undetected until its too late. Only CIWS/PDMS may respond at the last moments.

Detection is the key in interception. Sub-sonic missiles have better capabilities to remain undetected:
- Subsonic ones normally have lower RCS, smaller / lighter then the supersonic.
- Very low thermal signature
- The subsonic missiles fly at very low altitude / terrain hugging. They just fly above the wave tops. Something which you cannot achieve with super sonic missiles as of yet. They can fly low but not as much as compared to subsonic ones.

If Taimoor is based on RAAD 1 or 2, then most probably it would be subsonic.
However, happy to see new weapon in Naval inventory.
There were rumours that Taimoor would be ICBM for Pakistani arsenal

P282 is expected to have more speed, highly possible supersonic.

Based on Storm Shadow used by F-35.
Same as that, its subsonic.

It definitely was missing a SOW - but a better result would this being a standardized weapon capable of being mounted on J-10s & Mirages as well

If they can standardize 3 key SOWs across both platforms, we're all good:
  1. Conventional ALCM (e.g., Taimoor)
  2. Supersonic-cruising ASCM (e.g., HD-1A)
  3. JSOW-style glide bomb with optional submunition dispenser (e.g., NORINCO GB500A)
I mean, at that point, you're not getting better ITAR-free fighters at this cost and deep-strike capability... and you can't get a better light-weight and medium-weight duo (JF-17 and J-10CE) at that price-point either. Once you finally toss in the J-21/J-35, then you get the heavyweight end of the spectrum too @tphuang
