Featured Nawaz bans party members from holding private meetings with military leadership

PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif on Thursday said from now on no one from his party will hold individual, private or delegation-level meetings with the country's military leadership.

If necessitated by national security or the constitution, such meetings will be approved by the party's leadership and will be made public, he wrote on Twitter.

Sharif's tweet comes a day after the Pakistan Army disclosed that former senior PML-N leader and Sindh governor Mohammad Zubair had twice reached out to Chief of the Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa and discussed political and legal woes of Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz in the past few weeks.

“Mr Zubair twice met the army chief, once in the last week of August and then on September 7 in the presence of director general ISI,” revealed military spokesman Maj Gen Babar Iftikhar in a TV talk show on Wednesday. He said both meetings were held on Zubair’s request.

After being 3x PM, going through a martial, last 3 years of “vote ko izzat do“ and DGISPRs disclosure of secret meetings, NOW you are making this declaration; NOW you came to know about secret meetings they should be banned for my party members!

The decision has been made by military, NOT Nawaz Sharif or Maryam, to not meet any of their representatives by disclosing Zubair Umar's name publicly. Nawaz Sharif’s announcement means nothing and is simply redundant. Had he made this declaration 5 years ago and then followed it in spirit then it could have been impactful.

Jungajoo bhai: I told you brother this guy was only trying to influence courts by pleading the military. Establishment of rule of law happens by strengthening courts and not by subverting and undermining them through other institutions illegally. And this is not the first time they have tried to influence courts, they have done it numerous times in past against BB/ PPP as well and in one case the phone conversation with Justice Qayum got leaked.
