A flight path mix up or malfunction ?

In any case next time it may be better to take to lands end and fire it into the Arabian Sea.

This one never left the atmosphere.... forget about the test being anywhere near successful.. It would've been a Big disaster.. had the booster landed in the village.. similar to what happened in China.

The other parts of the missile too would be present in nearby wilderness which got unnoticed.
Nothing wrong with the failure part but civilian security must be considered while testing such weapons.

That's why most of the responsible nations maintain a fleet of sea based navigation and tracking systems to test their missiles in the sea.. and have their test range near the coast... unfortunately Pakistan doesn't posses proper technology to develop such vessels on their own.

SOme questions

At wat altitude does a warhead separate from missile in case of a Ballistic missiles?

It depends on and varies with the range and type of Ballistic missile. Exact data is not available for military missiles.
Does war heads have flight control system integrated? If not wont it make the warhead an easy target for ABMs .
Yes.

Was the Pak army aware of the falling debris near villages? I mean they will be tracking the missile all the way to the target right. From the news it seems like Army came into the scene only after local authorities informed them.

Of course they were, but EXACT locations of all debris cannot be pinpointed. And as media reported:
The police was silent on the matter, and the military was quick to the site. “We have been kept away from this matter,” said Dadu SSP Usman Ghani. “The army is looking into it.”
Police sources said that a “Colonel Mushtaq” and “Colonel Amjad” from the Hyderabad Cantonment have secured the sites as well as the metal debris.

was this a failure of planning that allowed missile parts to fall into habitable area or did the missile malfunction ???

Could be any of these two possibilities.

Did you even try to look into the matter in detail before speculating?
Ghauri has a maximum range of 1300km. This incident appears to have happened ~900km far from the launch area. How could the missile motor go THAT far and still have enough fuel to cause any havoc? Besides, it wasn't the missile motor, it was a PART of it (and as the photos suggest, only the Guidance system) according to the official claim:
“The metal parts found in a remote area of Dadu, as reported in media today, were part of the motor body, which separated from the missile as planned, well within the safety corridor,” said a statement by the ISPR.

Responsible. Oh God.
Pakistan possesses all of the tracking/telemetry equipment required for a long range (IRBM class) test in the Ocean, and a dedicated coastal launch facility too. Shaheen-1 and 2 have been tested by the help of these facilities.

Whatever you say, Ahseeba.
But the long and short of it is that the residents of Dadu simply had a narrow escape. They could have had the fate of "Chicken Little" or Little Chickens if any of that falling debris of upto 100kg had landed on anyone's heads. Just plain lucky.

Moral of the story; whenever a missile test is planned- be sure to at least keep a helmet on the head.

I never denied that fact. This matter needs to be seriously looked into by the concerned authorities (I'm sure they already have), and measures must be taken to prevent such incidents.

I appreciate your cautionary note regarding the above.

However one aspect wrt this episode. If a succesful launch of an MRBM or any BM results in hazardous debris falling anywhere in the country of launch; then it certainly points to an area of deficiency. Even the success will not remain unquestioned.

Where would the missile go from Dadu??

If it took off from somewhere near Attock, then it usually goes towards Balochistan's western end. This part landed at Dadu, and even if we account for wind changes after separation, it doesn't add up does it?

Or does the missile change course midway through the journey?

How does it change midway without the FCC ?

^^^ Loled hard at you kids getting all defensive. Calm down. Its not like its the end of the world. It was an experiment and experiments do fail. Its not like the missile was fired towards india. Its just an experiment. Relax

It was NOT an experiment. It was an user trial conducted by the SFC in real time conditions. In all probablilty this was a random missile taken out from the production lot. Missile failing is not a great deal..all countries have failures, but the apparent lack of transparency and the great cover-up attempted by ISPR is a concern. Now this questions the validity of their previous sucesses as well.

some launches have to be made over land to assess the INS.
Gravity hubs such as mountain ranges effect to Inertial navigation system.

@XYON : Sir Jee...you appear to have inside information on what goes on in the military....clear the air for us ?
