The Interpol cell in Muscat arrested a Pakistani murder accused and repatriated him back to Pakistan last month with the assistance of ROP. R A was one of the accused in the murder of former attorney general and retired Peshawar High Court judge Sardar Khan.

Interpol issued a red alert when he had escaped from Pakistan after killing Khan in Islamabad on February 3, 2010. Five persons including a woman had requested to meet Khan at his daughter's house and then killed him.

R A had allegedly plotted the murder after Khan turned down a bribe for losing a land grabbing case he was fighting for the Peshawar Development Authority against R A in the Peshawar High Court.

The case involved five prime plots of land worth billions of Pakistani rupees in different localities. Following the murder, the accused fled to Afghanistan, and from there to Dubai on a forged passport.

R A was arrested by the Dubai immigration authorities in January this year, but managed to get a case of cheque dishonour registered against himself. This helped him avoid extradition to Pakistan, but he was arrested when he tried to enter Oman.

He was tracked down and arrested after his mobile phone's IMEI number revealed that he was in Oman. “He was deported via a Pakistan International Airlines flight,” an ROP official said.

According to an ROP press release, it received an alert from Islamabad, as well as the Interpol red corner notice.
