Modi as PM may encourage right-wing militancy: US think-tank

Sorry dude - i disagree with you in many ways. BJP did not go back to Ram temple agenda or retrogressive agenda when they ruled at the center. They focussed on development. The reason they did not review the personal laws is (or atleast I am inclined to think) they never had majority for themselves as it was a coalition at the center. Because it is going to be coalition at the center in 2014, I will support BJP.
So when they checked their natural religious tendencies, they did it own their own accord. When they did not do something they actually aim to do, it is because of coalition compulsions. Have your cake and eat it too.

As for congress, it is just not petty politics. Sonia with NAC has been taking India backwards with the socialist schemes and coupled with lack of reforms and plenty of scams they are killing Indian growth potential. Coupled with religious politics, congress will drag India down.
The so called socialist schemes of Congress are needed for a poor country like us. There should be a safety net like the employment guarantee scheme if not unemployment benefits for the poor. India cannot afford to be not socialist. I think any government would not want to scrap the scheme.

Who said India did not push reforms in this government's term? The plenty of scams, I believe existed even earlier. Only they are more prone to public attention now and it is a good sign that heads are rolling. Besides BJP rules Karnataka also along with Gujarat.

Now Congress has crossed the limit and brought it to an extent of giving freebies to people. No doubt about it. I appreciate BJP for not playing such tactics so far. I also appreciate their stand on reservations(RSS does not even want any reservations!). But then read today's newspapers, BJP is also offering freebies in Karnataka:hitwall. However what Congress carries for populism by throwing away money, BJP does by selling fear to Hindus that their religion is in danger.

BJP, if it brings in development, I would be fine. That is my interest. Beyond that I am indifferent to Ram temple or Babri Masjid which begs me to raise a question - if Ram temple is not important to secular hindus why should babri masjid be important to secular muslims. The only ones who should be interested are ring wing hindus or fundamentalist muslims. So let me know if you still care about BJP's ram temple agenda to simply vote congress back to power so that they can do more damage?
Ram temple agenda is not the whole point. It is a symptom of the mindset the party promotes. How else would we see their cadre cheering their Gandhi's Owaisi-mark speeches?

At the street level, Congress leaders promise 'justice to your community' to each community(code word for sops). Whereas BJP leaders beat their chests about Hinduism, Hindu pride(Ram temple is just one issue of that pride) etc. I guess the mostly urban Indians on internet do not get exposed to this jugaad.

The choice is clear for all people who think their vote will be wasted if they vote for a third party. Lesser of the two evils. I guess that is the same MO for you in choosing to vote. We are already doomed because we don't recognize the alternatives.

The ones who are interested should not be only the right wingers of both sides. I don't know what you would call me. But I think it is only fair that the Ayodhya land should be given back to the Masjid because that was the status quo at independence. The simple reason being if you start digging history, where will it stop? If we let the right wingers be the only interested parties in the matter, tomorrow they are the ones who will shape the opinions, because nobody else cared till now and have to listen to people who actually have seen the turf. We don't need to guess how that will go. If the Masjid stands the same Rathyatra BS. If the Temple(s?) wins, the same muslim victimisation BS.

I can't expect to have both ways right? keep right wing hindutva agenda in check(which is something I do not want) and have personal laws reviewed(which I feel is necessary so as to move towards a proper secular state) - So I have to make a compromise and if development was the focus with the hindutva agenda in check, I will take it.

The so called socialist schemes of Congress are needed for a poor country like us. There should be a safety net like the employment guarantee scheme if not unemployment benefits for the poor. India cannot afford to be not socialist. I think any government would not want to scrap the scheme.

The socialist policies/schemes of Congress has been deemed as a failure - I do agree that few schemes are needed like employment guarantee scheme but there are more populist schemes which had driven a hole like the $9 1/2 billion waiving of loans for farmers, food security bill etc - rather invest in proper technologies for the agricultural sector so as to boost the crop production so that the farmers need not live off freebies.

Who said India did not push reforms in this government's term? The plenty of scams, I believe existed even earlier. Only they are more prone to public attention now and it is a good sign that heads are rolling. Besides BJP rules Karnataka also along with Gujarat.

The plenty of scams was there before. But the amount involved is mindboggling now - it literally runs into multibillion dollars - before it used to be some 60 crores for bofors or 900 crores for food fodder scam but now it is into 1000s of crores - so you see the difference?

Ram temple agenda or destruction of the masjid is not the whole point. The symptom of the mindset as you mentioned is the whole point. A masjid among 1000s of masjids got destroyed and we see it as excuse for terrorism for the past 2 decades. Why this issue should be huge when a similar Masjid next to Somnath was moved away in 1950? And the Congress preying off this issue increasing the fear among the muslims by playing on to the hindu right wing bogeyman. This exact reason why I hate Congress.

At the street level, Congress leaders promise 'justice to your community' to each community(code word for sops). So what alternatives does the urban educated can choose from or recognize if they do not have the final say? - I expressed my opinion in another thread yesterday that the silent majority - the BPL population is the one which decides ultimately on who gets to rule India and decides on all wrong reasons. So ultimately with no alternatives to choose from, "My bastards" is what is applicable here.

I am least interested in status quo or for that sake, give a damn about the temple/masjid, I would go by whatever verdict SC gives.

My take is simple - Muslims who are concerned about masjid - shut the f**k up and focus on the development of your community and contribute to the Indian growth story instead of playing the victim card - look at all the other minorities including Sikhs who had to go through the turbulent days of Punjab problem - they shine here in India - look inward and find out what is wrong with your community - Right wing Hindus - shut the f**k up as well - there are more pressing needs than Ram temple like going back to the glorious days of India when India was seen as a country full of riches which in fact was a magnet for the invaders from abroad and the past few hundred years is nothing but an aberration.

And you dont have that of 5 years old even ;)

RSS is opposed to Modi because the group sees its ideology highjacked by Modi in a new style that looks less extreme but its the same.

So you mean to say that RSS would be offended because Modi is making their EXTREME agenda look Moderate while keeping it extreme?

What sort of Logic is this???

Ironically RSS is opposed to having modi as the leader of bjp.

Modi is gaining popularity in bjp despite the RSS

Some times I hear news reports stating that RSS favours Modi's PM candidature and sometimes I read that they are opposed to him. Not sure what's this all about??

Well instead of giving this land to one of the community, the Ayodhya land should actually be made either a orphanage or a old age home so that this religious BS can end peacefully....

I think I agreed with your principle of choosing a party in the above post. It is just a case of accepting the huge risk and baggage that comes with BJP.

I agreed with you here.

Sure the size of scams has increased. 2G scam is overestimated in that because of the cheap spectrum, it helped huge population of India to get mobile connectivity. Nevertheless it is a scam. I don't think a scamster will be considerate with the amount to scam. :P

Somnath was built with consensus not by destroying it with karseva. You see the difference? Why did a shut case(a British judge gave a sane verdict saying now the masjid cannot be moved because it was built centuries ago and we should not start unravellin history) matter so much, beginning in the 1980's? It is the amazing mix of both saffronist yahoos and Congress's populism. Probably one of the very few cases where their coordination had an everlasting effect. Pick the worst here? I will choose the guys who actually demolished it and whose leader day before yesterday, asked Hindus to be proud of it. My bet is that BJP will not announce a PM candidate this time. That way they hit the non-overlapping votebanks they have. Youth vote for Modi, the Hindutvavadis vote for Advani.

And yes it has been used as an excuse for terrorism which says a lot about the backwardness of the muslim community in India and the craziness tolerated. But I am saying treat craziness on both sides the same.

A convenient way to shrug off responsibility. Even the courts are finding it difficult to give a verdict because they are afraid for the nation. That is why they come up with consensus verdicts like the last one. Courts are not supposed to be delivering based on consensus.

For all Modi Haters who say he instigated the Riots. Modi's Speech telcast live on Doordarshan on 28th February 2002

Who says he instigated the riots? Pakistanis?
Listen to what Indians are saying. That he did not try to stop the riots with full state power. He later refused to 'regret' the handling of the riots or the violence in the riots itself. Until last year's Sadbhavana yatra.

Not just 2G - look at coal mines offered to some companies in an arbitrary fashion or for that matter CWG which included mismanagement as well that it made every Indian hang his head in shame.

Somnath was not built with consensus - Nehru was totally opposed against this move and was worried and felt it might break the secular fabric of India.

And yes it has been used as an excuse for terrorism which says a lot about the backwardness of the muslim community in India and the craziness tolerated. But I am saying treat craziness on both sides the same.

That is a very simple argument - Let me keep it simple - Hindus do not tolerate craziness beyond a certain extent.

It is - That is why we have the courts for - to make difficult decisions.

2G spectrum for poor Indians with or without congress-I was inevitable, but the scam congress-I clinched is typical of them.

It is so annoying when people support congress-I for development they did for India. No one could have stopped a new nation to quench the prosperity, but socialist and quota/cooperative model congress-I thrust upon this nation is responsible for all the miseries we are still enduring today.

People who praise congress-I for 1990s reforms don't understand the fact that they did it only when we were gasping last breaths as an economy. An intelligent policy maker would have done reforms way before like Chinese did in 1971.

Another scare mongering done by congress-I supporters is that BJP is anti FDI. BJP is anti FDI only in retail sector otherwise they are the people who brought most MNC in India during their rule.

Another myth that congress-I is not communal or hasn't been doing communal politics is laughable.

I question a think tank who full heartedly support Congress. I also question the fact that there is a member by the name of Aziz. I wonder what's his motivation? Anyway, If India wants to be a STRONG PLAYER it needs to accept the reality that MODI is the only one capable of pushing India forward quickly. I like Nitish and if he was elected, he would do great things also. In fact, I think he would be more stable.

I think if Indians think that Modi will be good for them then they should vote for him.As long as he does not discriminate against other minorities or goes on a rampage I am perfectly fine with him!I hope he takes steps to solve issues with Bangladesh.
