After cricketers in Pakistan found themselves in hot waters for their tax filings, the Pakistan cricket team requested the finance minister to direct the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to collect outstanding taxes of cricketers at a flat rate of 10 per cent.

National team captain Misbahul Haq along with the Test cricketer Azhar Ali met with Finance Minister Ishaq Dar on behalf of the national team to discuss matters pertaining to their taxes at the ministry of finance on Wednesday.
Misbah thanked Dar for removing cricketers from professional services, noting it would provide major relief to the cricketers in the current fiscal year.
Arguing that cricketers only earn money over a period of five to six years – when they play international cricket, they do not earn reasonable earnings for the remainder of their careers. Misbah urged the minister that they should not be placed in the category of professional services.
Appreciating the imposition of flat tax rate of 10 per cent on cricketers for the current fiscal year, Misbah presented the case of clearing pending tax returns of cricketers for the past four years at the flat rate of 10 per cent.
Dar, while stressing on the need for people to pay their taxes, assured the cricketers that genuine concerns will be addressed so that they can focus more on their professional responsibilities.
The meeting was also attended by FBR Chairman Tariq Bajwa, Advisor to the Finance Minister Rana Assad Amin and senior officials of the ministry.

They get peanuts compared to other players in the sport. If they can't provide them with an international's athlete's wage then compensate them.

In current climate the domestic players don't even break even when travelling to domestic games yet they still turn up and deliver performances on world stage.

Their careers end at 40 if they are lucky. Whoever chooses to pursue cricket as a profession against these odds and makes it to domestic level they should be given international grade pay or heavy tax relief.

I could care less , if someone who is earning 50,000 per month has to pay tax at the rate of 17% , then someone who is earning More then 2,3 million can pay as well , the excuse that since i am a icon I do not have to pay taxes does not work here , by this logic PM should also not pay any taxes or any member of the parliament on their salary , as their source of income will end in 5 years .

Everyone is equal, the moment you start treating someone special , and start granting them favors , you get a screwed up society I.e. Pakistan .

That's only for those who make it to the national team and play for at least 10 years. The likes of Wasim, Waqar, Younis, Gul, Ajmal, Afridi are far and few. They can earn anytime and anywhere. The issue is with those who come, play for a while and then dwindle into darkness. How are they supposed to earn a livelihood? That's one reason they fall victim to match fixing to make a quick and easy buck.

Imagine if Muhammad Amir had not been greedy for those few thousand GBP, how much he would have made playing for 5 years? He was thinking, spot fixing is easy, and he can make a quick buck. But alas, one of the best bowlers to rise, felt victim to financial greed.

Sports players are stars for us. They represent our nation on a global scale. They shouldn't be paying taxes, in my view. They amount of earning they bring the country is huge it self.

Politicians are the richest people of Pakistan and they dont pay taxes. They have billions of dollars investments and businesses abroad and they dont pay taxes. Dar has multi million dollars plazas in Dubai. His son drives a Rolls Royce there. His son brought expensive paintings from qarz e hasna provided by his daddy from state resources. How much did he pay tax?

How much tax will they collect from a handful of cricketers? And what example have they set and what right tey have to ask people to pay tax when they dont?

As i said before , I dont really care much about it , there should be no discrimination in tax laws , everyone should pay them , these stars dont play for free , they get huge sum of money , the ones you are talking about dont really pay taxes , as the do not earn that much .

if a soldier who risked his life & earns peanuts as compares to these people pays taxes , then these so called Stars need to pay them as well .
