Srinagar, Oct 17: A militant was killed in an ongoing encounter with troops in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

A police spokesman said acting on a specific information about presence of militants in village Yachgoose, Rajpora in Pulwama district, police and 53 RR personnel laid siege around the area to flush out the militants.
He said while the combing operation was going on, militants hiding in the area fired from automatic weapons towards the search party. “The fire was returned by the troops, triggering an encounter. In the ensuing gunfight, which was going on, a militant was killed,” he said.
The deceased militant was identified as Javed Ahmad alias Zubair.
Sources said another militant was holed-up in the area and was engaging police and army men in the firefight. “Reinforcements have been rushed to flush out the hiding militant,” they said.
