At a time when the the Odd Even debate is raging in the national capital, a public transport system, which will also help check pollution, is being planned by the Narendra Modi government for the National Capital Region (NCR). Moving towards solutions to urban transportation problems, the government is hopeful of rolling out a cable car or pod facility between Delhi and Gurgaon. Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has announced the Metrino Personal Rapid Transit System from Delhi-Haryana border to Rajiv Chowk and Sohna road (Badshahpur Chowk) as a pilot project.

The government hopes to start work on the project by middle of this year. According to some media reports, the pilot project will span a 13km stretch from the Gurgaon-Delhi border to Badshapur Mod on Sohna Road and is estimated to cost Rs 850 crore.

Metrino pods are small (car size), fully automatic, driverless vehicles that travel independently suspended under an overhead network of light guideways, 5 to 10m above street level. (Metrino PRT Photo)

On fun note, these reminds of the public transport system in Futurama :D

Well done BJP for thinking of out of the box solutions.

Left to Drama queen, he with his Thuglaq ideas, would have made a mess of things.

I remember Modi had checked out this system in Dubai. Glad he is actually implementing it

wonderful, add aerial traffic to the one already abundantly present in delhi ( and india ).

have they thought of security??

1. will these pods be for a single person or will there be another passenger added??

2. what happens if a pod malfunctions or gets stuck, especially in a crime-heavy place like delhi??

instead of this stunt the indian supreme court should instead take lead and start successively banning private personal transport ( cars, scooters, motorcycles, jeeps, suv's )... this would be the real step towards removing of vehicle-borne pollution, crime, "accidents", congestion, social disharmony... any other step is a half-hearted step.

obviously, public transport must be drastically improved and increased.

what do you want?People should ride horses?

Delhi BRTS should be implemented with more planning, it still is working under capacity and is not preferred by the people as much as the Delhi Metro and if needed a monorail system like Mumbai should be introduced first rather then a Metrino.

my last line in previous post spoke of public transport.

what i missed saying was buses that are fueled by bio-fuel or even better, salt water ( like the 'quant' car ).

Not Gurgaon but Gurugram. :sarcastic:
It will take time for the people to get used to it.
However. What are your thoughts about these Metrino? Do they have such systems in Russia? are they successful?
