Lt Gen (retd) Asad Durrani summoned to GHQ for violating military's code of conduct

Some excerpts :

Dulat: Kashmir keeps coming up in bits and pieces, but you were mentioning Burhan Wani.

Durrani: Once this phase of the uprising took place, I asked people who are involved in the Kashmir issue, not officially but otherwise, some of them old Kashmir hands: Will things be different?

Yes, it looks different, people are angry. Instead of talking of fighting, they are talking of embracing shahadat. ‘Martyrdom cults’, someone said unkindly.

If it’s going to be unusual then the Indians will adopt unusual ways of handling it. Regardless of what India does, it will continue to manage on most occasions, it can contain whatever happens, it can suppress Kashmiris, appease them, accommodate them.

It has happened, it will continue. If it continues 20 years from now Omar Abdullah might be the chief minister, but the problem keeps festering. But Kashmir uprising is only 28 years or so, there are things that have gone on for 50, 60, 70 years.

We also have an example, though not as severe, in Balochistan. In the last 70 years, five uprisings. Few people are involved, mainly 5,000-10,000 angry youth, but it’s a vast area so they are dispersed. It’s not united. We manage to contain it each time and have limited it to five or six districts out of 34. For most Balochis Pakistan remains the least bad option.

Despite their weaknesses and despite our ability to contain the unrest, the problem will continue. It is not only a problem of 5,000 people. Others who may not have taken that path and may still believe in Pakistan have grievances that aren’t less. There are inherent structural deficits in the politics and economics, all complex, so they will continue. It indicates that a problem is resolved by many short-term and long-term astute measures.

Will there be NSC meeting and media propaganda for him like there was for Nawaz?

Exactly...Lets See how far GHQ go on Durrani...this is another test case like Musharraf and Zaheer.

What? Do you think Bhai Jaan? on Ex-ISI Chief's collaboration with Indian Raw Chief here.
People want to listen to you sir. They are on defensive from Ghaddar Nooni tunes on this new development.
Pls guides them. Their conditions at the moment is pitiful...please.

The development comes hours after former premier Nawaz Sharif and Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Senator Raza Rabbani voiced their reservations over the book.

Nawaz demands 'emergency NSC meeting' over Asad Durrani's book

Speaking to journalists in Islamabad on Friday, Nawaz demanded that an emergency meeting of the National Security Committee (NSC) be summoned over the book written by Durrani.

The former premier said that a trustworthy national commission should be constituted to look over such matters.

Rabbani, who formerly served as the chairman of the Senate of Pakistan, also severely criticised the teaming up of former chiefs of Pakistan and India’s spy agencies to write the book.

"A book co-authored by former chief of India’s spy agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) AS Dulat and ex-chief of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Lieutenant General (retd) Asad Durrani has recently been published," Rabbani said, while addressing a Senate session on Friday.

"It is shocking that on one hand Pakistan and India relations are at an all-time low and on the other hand, former spy chiefs of both the countries are teaming up to write a book."

Rabbani further lashed out saying that had a civilian or a politician teamed up with a counterpart to write a book similar to Dulat and Durrani’s, then there would have been a "hue and cry."

"Had a politician done the same thing he would have been labelled a traitor," he asserted.

Politician would've been termed 'traitor' for teaming up with Indian counterpart to pen book: Rabbani

On May 14, a meeting of the NSC had been called over Nawaz’s statement on the 2008 Mumbai attacks.

In an interview to Dawn newspaper recently Nawaz had said, "Militant organisations are active. Call them non-state actors, should we allow them to cross the border and kill 150 people in Mumbai? Explain it to me. Why can’t we complete the trial?"

His remarks were played up by the Indian media as an admission of Pakistan's involvement in the terrorist attacks, even though similar questions and statements have been raised from civilian and security officials in Pakistan earlier.

Following the backlash on international and local media, army spokesperson Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor had said on Twitter that the army had "suggested" that the NSC meeting be called to clarify the country's stance on the statement.

Analysts' views
Defence analyst Shehzad Chaudhry, in his response to the development, said that whoever speaks against the state, then not just the military could inquire him, but a citizen could also go to a court of law against it.

Irshad Bhatti termed the decision to summon Durrani to explain his position right, saying the former spy chief should be summoned to court and punished as well.

Major General (retd) Aijaz Awan said it is good to impeach a person, adding, "There is no expiry date of the military's oath.

"If the book has such revelations that fall into the category of official secret act, then punishment should be given," Awan added.
Is state complicit in attack on Mumbai? If not let the truth come out.

I don't know why the retired generals have itch to write these kind of books, they should play golf and chill out at farm lands given for their services.

Thank you for the tag. I was waiting for this Durrani guy to burst into the scene along similar lines of Nawaz but I was surprised that he didn't and so I thought my doubts on him were not correct...

I backed my self at the time that I didn't post anti Durrani after listening to his earlier outburst on the matter because I thought the former ISI chief was playing India for something else, some higher spymaster cause...

Sadly, I stand humiliated as any patriotic Pakistani for thinking so highly of Durrani.
He being the former ISI Chief, has turned out to be much more sinister than merely coming out in the open directly to help out Nawaz but ... But through his co-authored book that was to be released now. This much we can safely assume in retrospect now that his writings are in the open.

It is evident that the infiltration is multi-trade, multi-dimentional and multi-generational. Posted about here too.

Have to hand it to India and specifically RAW. The have managed to out maneuver ISI after a long time.

For nations more serious about games than international politics;
India 2 - Pakistan 0.

It's true that one strives to be as good as one's Enemy number one. Unfortunately for Pakistan, our enemy number happens to be India.

Both Nawaz and Durrani should face the same music for going against Pakistani narrative and siding with India for their personal gains and being pawns of the larger, regional game, all that for mere personal interests.

Both Nawaz and Durrani should face the same fate. Give them a gun and leave them in their study to contemplate their actions.

I'm sure at least Nawaz would opt for something in the back side instead.

Like I said in my earlier post, the infiltration is multi-trade, multi-dimensional and multi-pronged.

How did the security agencies of Pakistan drop the ball? How was durrani left alone to pursue his obnoxious obsession to reveal state secrets and sink deeper into his own created quagmire is another topic.

How naive can an ISI Chief be to agree to such a book conceived, planned, played out, authored and Published under complete control of Indians is not just mind boggling but leaves common Pakistanis like myself flabbergasted.

The naivety of Durrani as it looks like before one reads the book as an objective Pakistani reader turns into rage at the audacity and level of tyranny committed by Durrani to even agree to co-author such a book under such circumstances that enabled the authoring of this book...

Nawaz goon and the Rabbani the bigot got the chance to lash at the army. if Asma Gahangir was alive she would have jumped from the roof top demanding punishment of army over this book too
But Sir, Gen Durrani crossed the very thin blue line and now land himself into hot waters. He was retired long back and as you know better than me ISI chief's post is administrative, no real spy work for him means ISI chief only maintain admin job and some top level policy making decisions hence no real contacts with insider news source after the retirement (minus the Gen Hameed Gul who himself became one of finest spy and spy master). Gen Durrani retired long back and his comments about recent events total based on speculations and assumptions.

Funny part is our beloved General has written against country where Mr Dillat has not made any claims ,I wonder where is Ghaddar Media and Journalists now !!!

On one side this disgraced dude (Durrani) was licking Dulat's feet and, at the same time, he was humiliating our greatest assets, the leaders of Afghan mujahideen, in Afghanistan. Those leaders were then found complaining and taunting that these Pakistani generals, who have never won a war, are trying to bully and teach Afghans who never lost a war in their history. The officials behind his appointment at this all crucial position of ISI DG must be idiots having no sense or understanding of Pak interests in the long run. Durrani is one idiot who single handedly damaged the Pak interests (and put us as a nation on a slippery slope) so much that other regional players (India, Iran, Russia, etc.) exploited the situation to ensure continued Afghans in-fighting and civil war and bleeding the Muslims. Later RAW could save Musharraf's life by informing ISI of a plot to kill that coward Musharraf just because RAW was in fact behind that plot after infiltrating Afghan establishment and Pakistani Taliban.
We have idiots who continuously try exploiting our weak system by spreading misinformation about Nawaz-Modi relationship. Nawaz at least talked with Indians at equal basis. Atal Bihari Vajpayee's coming to Lahore and speaking at Minar-i-Pakistan ground was, I think, one of the most crucial successes of Pak foreign policy. That event, despite being symbolic in its nature, was indicative of the deep change in the thinking of hardliner Hindus towards Pakistan that could have opened up a window of opportunity for the peaceful co-existence of the two nations. Musharraf sabotaged that opportunity by toppling NS government. He was later begging Atal Bihari Vajpayee for the same deal (that was in the commence with NS) by running pole to post and was finally humiliated in Agra.
We need to analyze our deeds and misdeeds in order to learn from history. We need to figure out why Muhammed Ali Jinnah's sister was humiliated by a dictator and how one of Jinnah's workers (Sheikh Mujibur Rahman) turned into a rouge who later broke our country? But we unfortunately seem to be incapable of doing even that. Rather we are still engaged in fabricating lies, changing perceptions, fooling the people of Pakistan, and playing with our constitution. Shame on us all.

Pak army while partnering with all the corrupt Bastard Pakisan has seen has manipulated people into thinking that Army is their savior while making shit ton of money supporting corrupt politicians!!!

Army is at the core of all problems in Pakistan..they have destroyed civilian politics and created corrupt tycoons like Bhutto, Nawaz, Jamat Islami to fill the power vacuum..there new darling these days is Khadim Rizvi..
