An 11-member delegation headed by Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif will leave for China today (Sunday) to discuss loans and implementation on projects relating to Pak-China Economic Corridor, it is learnt.
According to sources, the delegation would include Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Reforms Ahsan Iqbal, Additional Secretary Fawad Hasan Fawad at the Prime Minister Secretariat, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi, Secretary of Ministry of Water and Power, Chairman National Highway Authority, and Chairman Gwadar Board Authority as well as others.
The delegation would hold meetings on July 7 and 8 in Beijing with Chinese authorities to discuss various projects in detail as well as loans including commercial, conventional loans and/or grants and other matters on projects included in Pak-China Economic Corridor. The sources said that the expectation is to sign some important agreements on the projects.
Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal has chaired a high-level meeting in connection with the delegation's visit to China to finalise agreements and assess the progress on 'early-harvest' projects in China-Pak Economic Corridor. Projects in infrastructure including roads, transport and energy sector include Karachi Lahore Motorway, 387 kilometres long Multan-Sukkur Motorway, 18.9 kilometres long East-Bay Gwadar Port Expressway, Lahore Metro Train (Orange Line), Infrastructure Development for Export Processing Zones Authority (EPZA) & Gwadar Industrial Estate Development Authority (GIEDA), 1,736 kilometres long Rehabilitation & Up-gradation of Karachi-Lahore-Peshawar (ML-I) Railway Track, 10x660 MW Coal-Based Power Projects (IPPs) at Gaddani estimated cost $1.8 billion, Jetty + Infrastructure at Gaddani as IPP, cost $1 billion and other mega projects.
The sources said that as many as 19 projects with an estimated cost of $34.49 billion may be discussed under Pak-China Economic Corridor, including Power Evacuation from Gaddani to National Grid (IPP), estimated to cost $2 billion; 3.5 MT/A Coal Mining Project, Thar Block-II SECMC, estimated to cost $0.8 billion; 2x660MW coal-based power projects at Sahiwal (Government of Punjab), estimated cost of $1.8 billion; 2x 660MW coal-based projects at Sheikhupura (IPP), estimated cost of $1.8 billion and 2x330MW Thar Power Coal Plant SCMC, estimated cost of $0.8 billion.
Other energy projects include Neelum-Jehlum Transmission Line estimated cost $0.15 billion, and Jhimpir Wind-Power 200MW, estimated cost $0.32 billion; Solar Power Park at Bahawalpur, costing $0.16 billion, and 2,793MW (three) Hydro Power Projects, costing $3 billion (i) 720MW Karot Hydro Power Project (ii) 873MW Suki Kanari Hydro Power Project; and (ii) 1,100MW Kohala Hydro Power project.
