The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government on Saturday rejected the request of the federal government to allow Qatari princes to hunt the houbara bustard in the province.

MPA Ishtiaq Urmar, an advisor to CM Pervaiz Khattak for Environment, Forests and Wildlife, told DawnNews he had received a letter from the interior ministry seeking permission for Qatari princes to hunt the protected bird which was refused.

The federal government's request was refused as the houbara bustard is a rare and protected bird, Urmar said.

"Following the 18th Amendment, provinces are sovereign in taking such decisions," Urmar said, adding that "strict action will be taken against those found hunting rare animals and birds."

The houbara bustard is not only protected under various international conventions and agreements signed by Pakistan but its hunting is also banned under the local wildlife protection laws.

Sources earlier told Dawn newspaper that while the other three provinces — Sindh, Punjab and Balochistan — allowed Arabs with permits to hunt the houbara bustards, KP did not. They added that a while ago, a Qatari who had been hunting in the province had been caught and fined.

any nation with a bit of self respect will do the same as KPK province did. Too bad only one province in Pakistan seems to possess ghairt baqi federal sa la ker Punjab tak bagarat bhata hua hain.

Finally there are politicians in this country with a spine thank you so much KP gov.

Yes there is another thread but indeed the news is amazing. The KPK govt is actually a very competent govt and their work on lawmaking development as well as education and security has been phenomenal since their police force has improved rapidly. The province indeed has jumped up several levels and I will surprised and angry if the province of kpk does not elect him again. Their stand is very admirable since we have allowed this madness to continue long enough and I am sure we will enjoy cordial relations without the killing of birds or animals and if they are still so desperate. Make a sealed city near gawader with wine, women and gambling and watch them spend months over there. :p :p

The fact that he is allowed such hunting is disgusting enough and the lack of guts in our federal govt is astounding.

It's not about guts it's about personal relations and buiseness which for a guy like NS is above everything even his own country.

Great decision, now keep standing on this decision.
Wonder what would be the Qatari response on that to Nawaz.

afsoos k hukamraan apnay zati faiday k liay national resources ka istaymaal ker rahay hein, baysharmi ke inteha hay

Careless arab princes...

They have dashed out 60 billion USD in last 6 months alone buying french rafael and US f15s..further to their royal carelessness they have also splashed out on k8 trainers and were mulling to buy jf 17s as well....
Such a small country... such a waste of money...

Lets all join hands to protect habbora bastard...
Caz every thing that happens in world happens for a reason... and that reason is k oye logoon tum NS k saath milay howay ho

Any special treatment to anyone must be curbed, their hunting and allied activities must remain within the laws of land.
