BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia today threw a challenge to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to prove what she said as 'enormous corruption' during the last BNP regime. (The Daily Star )
"If you (Hasina) have the courage, you have to prove the corruption of 'Tk 20 thousand core' during our regime", Khaleda told the leaders and supporters of BNP and its front organisations at the historic Paltan Maidan.
Khaleda also urged the government to quit from power immediately for its failure to curb terrorism and ease the power and water crises.
Terming Hasina a 'lair', Khaleda, also the main opposition leader, blamed Awami League for declaring state of emergency in the country.
"The caretaker government compelled to declare a state of emergency in the country on the eve of 1/11 in the wake of the Awami League's movement," a off while saree donned Khaleda told audience.
She also blamed the immediate past caretaker government (CG) for deliberately filing false cases against BNP's leaders and activists to destroy the party.
"Failing to destroy the BNP, it (CG) had tried to oust me from the country. But their initiatives became futile again. Now, someone has been trying to throw out me from my house", Khaleda said in her nearly one hour speech.
The public meeting was organised by Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal, the labour wing of the opposition, to mark the May Day.
