Kamorta class corvettes for VPN ?

Yes, as I understand, Indian ships such as Kamorta and Kolkata are commissioned with the Barak 8 system installed, but without the actual missiles while waiting for the production units.
This does beg the question.
Does Vietnaam need Fleet protection SAM on Corvettes?

Barak 8 is designed to be the Fleet protection system of Israeli and Indian Navies. It is built on AAW Frigates. Its job is to provide aerial protection to any SAG that sails with it. As opposed to Barak which provides point defense for individual ships against missiles.

If Vietnam wants fleet wide protection, would not a larger frigate be a better choice instead of Kamorta?

I was surprised that GRSE went ahead and made an offer for this Philippines tender. I taught the Philippines offering $200million for a new frigate was unrealistic. But I guess GRSE can work with that..

Actually, India already said that they can make military equipment for export cheaper than China, they are just getting started, they had a lot of housekeeping and catch up to do, took a long time to get things going and for the domestic companies to absorb the tech transfers and set up things, but now the ships are starting to come out and they look good.

The Indian approach of mixing and matching weapon systems from different countries and integrate them into a platform is now showing the results. Kolkata and Kamorta are just 2 examples. That approach shows the way for VN.

Vietnam definitely needs fleet air defense because the south china sea will be a very dense missile environment in case of conflict. I'm talking missile saturation attacks from different sources, ships, subs and bombers. The chinese have good surveillance capabilities and they can concentrate a lot of firepower against any given task force, so Barak 8 is mandatory.

The problem with bigger ships for VN is cost. VN can't afford a Kolkata right now.

Kolkata is still need to complete its perfection . Follow up would be Kochi and Bangalore. And like you said it is expensive.Perhaps we cant reject a possibility of such a deal in future. But now due to the cost and also for Chinese that would too much provocative.Kolkata Class destroyer has
32 Brahmos VLS and 64 Barak 8MRSAM capability. That 7500 tons destroyer would increase capabilities of VN several fold.
Let see .We like such a deal in future.

Huge corvette with so many foreign equipments means it's not easy to use for a small navy.VPN needs something like Visby and Sigma.

Can you tell us what did you hear specifically about these ships for Vietnam? A source in the VN navy told me last year that the navy had decided to get 6 Kamorta ships and they were surprised as well, but no more info and nothing else was heard since.
These will not be Kamorta class vessels, rather boats offered are based on Sukanya class which can even fire ballistic missiles leave aside antiship missiles. So no worryies on that part. What India has offered to Vietnam is far much more formiddable than what China has supplied to its friendly countries. Who else will sell stealth design with IR suppressor while carrying VLS missile deck. Items on offer are anti missile system, Radar, anti ship missile, above 100 km range tarpedo(this is what earlier I had given hint in earlier post), main gun super effective against anti ship cruise missiles, helicoper integrated with ship, land attack capability, anti submarine warfare capability. Anti ship missiles will be limited in numbers to save space, 8 at max. But tarpedo will be the most deadly weapon against ships. All integrated in secure networked ship management system.

Those anti ship weapons are still low range, but that's ok for how the Indian navy plans to operate in the Indian ocean, but for Vietnam to operate them in the south china sea, they will need long range anti ship missiles.
Long range anti ship missile is always there but a ship will have to detect first this type of boat. Even Indian surface fleet was not able to detect it from 100 km range, then they had to venture much closer to only detect it, forget to attack. This is where its strength lies, hide and attack with excellent manuverability while countering arial and sub surface threats using BARAK 8 and long range sensors in cooperation with tarpedo. Vietnam doesn't need to go to east china sea to defend its areas, though this boat has all resources to handle threats far from friendly shores in battle groups.

This kind of boat is housing freaking balliatic missiles on board, then there is no way that it can't house and fire anti ship missiles. So that is not a worry.

The chinese press has being saying for a while that VN will get 6 Kamortas, but can't get any other details from anywhere else.
It is niether Kamorta class corvette nor Sukanya class patrol boat. Rather it is enlarged boat with hybrid capabilities of both classes. Thank you.

Around 70% of equipments and weapons would be ours. And we are integrating all these systems as our own.and we will give maintenance to all these systems.

Vietnam doesn't have the luxury of strategic depth for such heavy class boat when enemy is so close. What it needs is multi role frigates anti access patrol boats with SSKs. Plus land based dedicated anti shipping jets. Thank you.

Whatever many take as is actually manufactured right here in India. P:)

You said the Indian navy is already operating this ship but I can't think of anything that matches this description. Can you point out the name of this ship?

Simply, I think an export version of the Kamorta makes more sense for VN. It is also within the price range that VN can afford (if they are similar to what GRSE is offering to the Philippines). And the rumors from the VN side is that they are indeed Kamorta.

Can you clarify? What shipyard will be building these Kamorta/Sukanya hybrid?
