Jordanian F-16 crashes, pilot killed

December 5, 2016 (by Lieven Dewitte) - A Royal Jordanian Air Force F-16 crashed shortly after take-off today due to what seems to be technical difficulties. The pilot Maj. Ayed Ahmad al-De'ajah was unfortunately killed in the accident.

The F-16 had just taken off on a training mission, according to an official military source. The crash was likely to a technical failure.

An anonymous source stated the jet was flying over Azraq town, located 100 kilometers east of the capital Amman, on Monday, when it experienced a technical glitch and crashed.

Jordan lost an F-16 fighter pilot two years ago when his aircraft crashed in Syria. The pilot was captured by Islamic State extremists who later burned him to death while he was trapped in a cage.

Jordan is part of the US-led coalition of Arab and Western countries carrying out air strikes against Daesh, which controls parts of Iraq and neighboring Syria.
