YAKUTSK, February 12. /TASS/. Japan’s Kawasaki Heavy Industries Co. Ltd and Sojitz Corporation have proposed construction of an energy-efficient power plant in Yakutsk in Russia’s Sakha Republic (Yakutia), a representative of the city administration reported on Friday.

"Japanese companies have chosen the Saysara region in Yakutsk as one of promising options. The participants of the meeting offered to the city’s authorities following the example of one of Japan’s biggest cities Osaka to construct an energy-efficient power plant," the source said.

Kawasaki suggests that gas turbines running on gas and diesel fuel and generating up to 30 MW of energy and heat, should be used for implementing the project. Their cost ranges from $742,000 to $3.8 mln per one turbine.

Earlier the mayor of Yakutsk Aysen Nikolayev spoke about the need for local energy generation in the city. "We spend more than 1 bln rubles ($12.5 mln) worth of budget funds on building infrastructure for individual residential construction though we could create local energy together with Japanese investors in order to reduce budget expenditures on this issue," he said.
