With the BJP adamant on going ahead with its plan to hoist national flag on Republic Day at Lal Chowk in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir government said it will not allow any programme which could vitiate peaceful atmosphere in the state.

During a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, it was decided that no programme which has the potential of vitiating the peaceful atmosphere in the state will be allowed, an official spokesman said here on Thursday night.

The state government directed the administrative and police officials to ensure that all measures are taken so that the law and order in the state is not disturbed in the run up to the Republic Day.

The BJP's youth wing -- Bhartiya Janta Yuva Morcha (BJYM) -- had started its programme of Rastriya Ekhta Yatra from Kanyakuwari to Kashmir and plans to hoist the national flag on January 26 at Lal Chowk.
