Is it a bird, is it a plane?

Close – he’s a mixture of both. It’s Jetman!
Swiss
daredevil Yves Rossy soared like a supersonic swallow around Japan’s holy Mount Fuji in his custom-built jet suit.

Dropped upside down from a helicopter, he shot through the skies in his 60kg four-engine carbon-Kevlar jet wing to celebrate the mountain’s designation as a World Heritage site.

The stunt man completed nine 10-minute flights at 190mph, climbing to 12,000ft over an average 9.3 miles.

He used only his body to steer before opening his parachute.

He said: “It’s a fantastic privilege to be a mosquito flying in front of that mountain” adding that Mt Fuji was beautiful “in its presence and form”.

Since 2004, the 54-year-old extreme sports enthusiast has rocketed over the Swiss Alps, and Grand Canyon in his suit.

In 2008, he made history by becoming the first man to cross the English Channel strapped to a single jet-powered wing.
